Does anybody here like to cook/bake for themselves, others, or their buns? If so, what do you like to cook/bake? I think it would be a fun (And yummy) thread to start. So, do you have any recipes to-die for? Or a really good bunny treat that you can make? Or some funny story where you totally messed up a recipe?

I just tried a grilled-cheese sandwich recipe where instead of butter on the outer sides of bread, you use Mayo. It didn’t turn out too bad! I was terrified it would be so gross! But I actually like the texture of the bread with mayo more vs. the bread with the butter.

        Enjoy!

          That does sound different!

I have always loved to bake. When I was 17 I made up my own sugar cookie recipe.
I have a horrid passion for sweets. I love to cook also… I’m just not as good at it. Lol

I just made a cheesecake for my sons girlfriend about a week ago. She had heard how good my baking was, so she wanted a cheesecake. My recipes are still making their way from Hawaii to here, so I picked a new recipe off of Pintrest. Let’s just say that didn’t go so well. The recipe called for too many eggs. It was very… Hmm… Eww. Lol. I should have known when I had to add a lot more butter to the graham cracker crust than was called for, but I now owe this girl a real cheesecake.

I LOVE cheesecake! have you ever heard of Aloha cake? It’s pineapple flavored cake mix from the store mixed with pineapple juice instead of water, with crushed pineapple and whipped cream and coconut shavings. All this talk of cakes, cookies, and pies are getting me hungry!

I’ve heard of it, but never made it yet.
A good cake is Haupia cake. Basically coconut pudding cake. Mmmm… I swear I could eat a whole cake.
              Now I want cake!

I don’t so much enjoy baking as I enjoy eating freshly baked things. So I bake anyway. :p I am awesome at cookies. I have a chocolate recipe book for different chocolate baked goods. I have perfected this one recipe in particular – really good thick chocolate cookies. I’ve tried making cake before, but managed to burn the outside and leave the inside raw. o.o

I’ve put some effort into cooking lately. I can cook rice, and I am very proud.

Tomorrow, I’m going to attempt custards.

                    That aloha cake sounds divine!

I love to bake especially bread. I usually do the no knead bread. I also love to make desserts – I usually make those I find in the Cooks Illustrated magazines or cookbooks because they seem foolproof and turn out yummy – I’ve made a pineapple upside down cake and a blueberry cobbler from their Cooks Country magazine and everyone loves them.

I also found 2 recipes on The Pioneer Woman for desserts that I love to make – Cherry Cake Pudding – not really a pudding but super easy and super good and Nantucket Cranberry Pie which isn’t really a pie in my opinion but more of a cake and it’s very easy and very good as well.

I rarely cook though – my husband is a retired chef – I do love to make macaroni and cheese variations though – it’s too fattening to make too often though and my husband is just not into macaroni and cheese – he’s French and I guess it’s just too American for him….

The cherry pudding sounds delicious Sarita! I also love to make mac and cheese, but nobody in my family is the biggest fan of mac and cheese. Also, I’ve been told my mac and cheese is too cheesy and will clog somebody’s arteries.

Lop love I’m coming over to your place for custard!!!

Sarita those cakes and such sound so good! I love fruit.
When we lived in Hawaii there was a backer who made the BEST desserts that were “healthier”. There was so little sugar in the recipes and the fruit just shined on its own. So good and not overly sweet.

Oh and that’s reminding me… Cheesecake… Lilikoi cheesecake *drools* passion fruit basically… You have no idea how good it is until you’ve had it fresh.

I’m diabetic and I LOVE sweets!

I’ve started to cut the sugar in a lot of my recipes… With the exception of frosting.   Believe me… You won’t miss it, and neither will your backside.

To be honest, the cherry pudding pie uses canned cherries so high in sugar, but tasty.

The pineapple upside down cake though is a much lighter version and I used frozen pineapple.

Here are links to some of the recipes:

                              http://christines-cuisine.blogspot.com/2011/04/pineapple-upside-down-cake.html

                              http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/01/cherry-cake-pudding/

                              http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2010/11/nantucket-cranberry-pie/

                              http://www.framedcooks.com/2011/08/texas-style-blueberry-cobbler.html

Cooks Country/America’s Test Kitchen doesn’t really let you look at their recipes on-line but those 2 I found are the exact recipes. The pineapple upside down is the most labor intensive but it’s still not too difficult – the other 3 super easy. What I loved too about the blueberry cobbler was the addition of the lemon zest sugar – really brightened it up.

I’ve had to cook for myself for awhile now. Asian food is my comfort zone but I like to branch out and do other things, especially baking. Below is just a random snapshot of what I’ve done.

Chick-fil-a sandwich knock off + fried pickles
                                  shrimp/pork wontons
                                  Curry filled buns
                                  S’mores cupcakes

I love to cook! I’m not into baking as much because I’m not a big sweets person, but I do enjoy it from time to time. I don’t cook for the bunnies (they like simple things like craisins and fruit anyway) but I “cook” for the dog sometimes. Mostly that just involves boiling liver and then baking it – nothing fancy.

And Re: the grilled cheese with mayo, I’ve always made tuna melt sandwiches this way (though I’ve always used butter for grilled cheese) and I really like how the bread turns out. It’s a nice flavor and a little different from butter.

If you’ve ever made homemade mayo (which I haven’t but my husband has) you realize (at least the home made stuff) is eggs and oil mainly so it makes sense that it would make a good grilled cheese sandwich :~) I do love a good grilled cheese sandwich too although it’s been awhile since I’ve made one for myself.

If you’ve ever had a Croque-Monsieur – a French ham and cheese they put bechamel on top which is a white sauce so maybe that’s where they got the idea for mayo for a grilled cheese sandwich….

Sarita- Totally going to make the pineapple cake sometime. Also, I’ve tried to make home-made mayo because we were having cheeseburgers and we ran out of store bought. Let’s just say, nobody had mayo on their sandwiches that night! haha!

Just thought of this when I was chatting about what parts of dandelions are edible for buns.

                                                Deep fried dandelions

Step one– Pick lots of dandelions

Step two– Take off the greens so you only have the yellow flower part, but it’s all still together.

Step three– Dip them in raw egg

Step four– Roll them in flour with a little cornmeal (Or you could do just flour or just cornmeal. find it better with flour cornmeal mix though)

Step five– put in the boiling oil until golden brown

Step six– salt and enjoy!(My favorite part)

Note—— Some people love it, some people hate it!

Funny, I tasted dandelions for the first time last week – my husband made a dandelion salad and they are so bitter tasting. Thank goodness for the poached egg and the bacon or else I may not have even been able to eat it….fried probably would have been better – even with bugs LOL.

Makes me wonder why Bobby bunny likes dandelions so much.

Dandelion greens are very bitter after the flower is formed/blossomed. If you pick them before that, normally, they aren’t that bitter. But they’re still fine if you eat them, they just don’t taste so good. But there is no green on the deep friend dandelions, it’s just the yellow flower.

Okay, just the blossom then – kind of like a zucchini blossom :~) I guess you would have to pick them from the yard then because I’ve only seen the dandelion greens in the grocery store.
