My bunny, Poppy, makes these odd little grunting noises. It mainly happens when I sit in her pen and she hops around me in a circle. It’s not a growling sound and I don’t think she’s expressing anger or fear as she is always in a rather playful mood when she does it (accompanied by tons of nose bumps) I think she’s trying to say hi to me or something, but I’m also a little worried it might be some sort of breathing issue since I haven’t really heard of rabbits grunting for no real reason before.

Have any of your buns done this before? If so, what does it indicate?

        Thanks for the help!!

Some bunnies are just more vocal than others, it’s not a problem!

Running around you in circles and grunting is a hormonal behavior. How old is she? It might be time to get her spayed.

Some bunnies seem to make little noises like that when they are excited.

In my experience that has always been “Yey! I’m happy to see you!”

Had neutured males who always did that when we came home. Mine now does that when I wake up and come into the living room in the morning, he often comes and grunts at me, then we snuggle.

She’s just honking, for mine it started usually around when the hormones begin to kick in and got more intense then calmed after neutering. Honking now only happens when they want to dance around our feet for food! It’s really cute!

Ruby hummed n honked when I held her and petted her.  She was a rare bunny who actually liked being held.  She also would jump into my arms if I had her in my lap.  I would hold her like I do Cotton in my arms and they would put their heads on my shoulder.

Ruby was very vocal.   Cotton talks with his front feet when upset.   He tooth purrs when petted.
