Link is off to the vets again today to bring forward his eye removal.
He’s been steadily getting worse… Clearly uncomfortable throughout the day, he’s back on the Metacam full time again now, and is generally more grumpy than usual.

He’s still a happy bun and runs around the living room from time to time, quite happy, but his eye is almost constantly closed now. We can just tell he’s not comfortable at all anymore.

Anyway, has any other BBers have a bun who’s had to have an eye removed, and if so, how well did the bun recover, how quick was the recovery, did you have to administer medication such as Baytril or anything else during the healing process, etc etc?…

Success or not, any information from experiences would be muchly appreciated.

It has been awhile – I had a foster who had to have her eye removed and I think we did some baytril and I know we did metacam. I believe she recovered very quickly and did just fine without the eye.

Vibes to Link – hope the surgery and healing are quick.

At the rabbit rescue I vollunteer at, a bun had an eye removed. She recovered rather quickly, but you do have to be very careful of abscessing in eye areas. I agree, baytril and Metacam.
The bun was rather confused for two days or so, but it helps to keep everything consistent, including routine and pen layout.

                A little update on Link.

We’ve spoken to our usual vet and had his eye assessed.
Link is now on 0.4mg dose of Dog Metacam just to keep him as comfortable as possible…

But, we then got in touch with the eye specialist and Link has now been scheduled in to have his eye removed on Tuesday… It’s all suddenly very real and stressful… o_O

I’ll likely be posting throughout his recovery and suchlike.

it is probably worrying you more now beforehand, than it will worry him afterwards

Just want to add some well wishes for Tuesday. (((Link)))

From stories I’ve read about rabbits that have had this type of surgery, they seem to do really well. There was a member a few years back who had this done for her rabbit and he healed incredibly quickly.

There do seem to be a fair number of success stories out there for buns who have had an eye out.
                      It’s very reassuring.

Now, if we could just fix all our other fury bodies too, now… Please?!…

Fingers crossed that, after Tuesday, Link will hating my eventually…
I look forward to the day when I no longer have to medicate him and he can start to learn to like me again…

I can understand why this is a difficult time for you. I would be worried and upset too. The truth is, though, bunnies adapt so well to things like this. Wishing him a very ((((Safe, easy procure))))) and a (((((very speedy recovery)))))
