I’m going to have a baby! A human baby! I’m due October 11.
This was a shock to a lot of people, because I had always said it was just animals for me. But the last little while, my husband and I did a lot of talking and felt something was missing in our lives and that we felt we were missing out, so now our lives are going to change forever (as everyone keeps telling me, and scaring me!!! )
We are pretty excited. I’m currently buying things to set up a “Peter Rabbit Nursery”. My baby is going to grow up surrounded by bunnies and bunny things.
I do have a question for all the parents with bunnies out there, “How did you introduce the baby to your bunnies”. “Were the bunnies stressed out by the baby?”
My bunnies rule the house and I am concerned for their well being. They have their own room so they shouldn’t be too bothered by the baby but I just want to do everything possible so it’s not a negative experience for them and my cats as well.
My bunnies are my babies now and forever and a new baby will not affect how much I love them. I just want us all to be a happy family!
OMG Squeeeee!!
My congratulations to you and Ricky. This was a happy surprise to read.
You’ll be lovely parents!
To tell you the truth I was surprised about this as well :~) But it was a nice surprise.
I think that you and Ricky will be wonderful parents as well.
Can’t wait to see the nursery – you are so talented and I know it is going to be adorable.
Awww LPT, that’s wonderful! Congratulations! You must be so excited!
Congrats! lol it’s funny that you had to point out it’s a human baby.
Congratulations.
Oh, that’s wonderful news LPT!
I was a bit surprised to see this too.
I am so so excited for you! October is a nice time to have a baby too.
Congratulations!
Congrats LPT!
I can’t wait to see the nursery, although this surprised me slightly, I am so happy for you guys, you are going to be great parents!
Congratulations! When people tell you your life will change don’t let it scare you. Its a wonderful thing. I have one son and I didn’t have rabbits at the time. I do have a grand daughter that comes over every other weekend. The bunnies don’t seem to like her very much now. Of course now she is at an age where she wants to try and get them. Its their instinct to run away from potential danger. She is almost 2. I just keep her out of their rooms. My grand daughter doesn’t live here so they aren’t around her that much. I think being your baby will live with you they will get use to it. will all work itself out. Peter rabbit nursery sounds nice. I have Peter Rabbit decals on the wall in Usagi’s rabbit room. Its cute. Again congrats this is a wonderful time for you and your husband I am happy for you!
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! *bounces* yay for baby!! Congrats to you and your hubby!!!
Thank you everyone!
I’m still a bit surprised myself, actually. I have had a very easy pregnancy thus far, with no symptoms and I’m not really even showing yet, so it’s weird to talk about having a baby when I don’t feel pregnant. A few weeks ago, hubby and I heard the baby’s heart beat at the Dr. and I was like “Oh my God, this is real” lol…
Just bought 2 little outfits today. Both have bunnies on them!
Congratulations!!!!!
I have bought my grand daughter lots of bunny stuff. You should check out Bunnies By the Bay. They have cute bunny stuff.
congratulations!! i have several pregnant friends and they got all bunny themed gifts from me at their showers!!
Congratulations! I do hope you will share pictures of the nursery!
Holy moly! I’m not going to lie, I’m surprised too. I definitely wasn’t expecting to see this when I got on today. Haha! The Peter Rabbit theme sounds super cute and, like others have said, you are so talented so I’m sure the room will look great.
Congrats!
PS (You know what’s weird? You have the same due date as my husband’s cousin.)
Congrats LPT!
I also look forward to bunny nursery pics!
congrats!
I have two kids and rabbits, my rabbits are not bothered by the boys at all…they come and go as they please. I’m sure your bunnies will be fine with the new edition!
Um… why is everyone surprised your having a baby LPT – do they all know something I don’t???? Ha ha ha ha…..
Gosh, I am SO excited for you – having a human baby is just as, if not more exciting as having a bunny baby, lol! (I just love anything baby, ha ha ha).
Congratulations to you and your hubby – this is such a wonderful special time for you both, enjoy! Cheers, Andi.
PS – I had NO idea what non-lagomorph meant? Never heard the term before, ha ha ha – so I almost missed your forum (that would have been terrible). Luckily I’m nosey and had a sticky anyway, LOL! SO pleased I did – what exciting news!
AH-Rabbits are in the order lagamorpha, making them lagamorphs. Humans are in the order primates, making us, well, not lagamorphs.
HUH?
LOL!
“The lagomorphs are the members of the taxonomic order Lagomorpha, of which there are two living families: the Leporidae (hares and rabbits) and the Ochotonidae (pikas). The name of the order is derived from the Greek lagos (λαγός, “hare”) and morphē (μορφή, “form”). There are about eighty species of lagomorph, which include thirty species of pika, twenty species of rabbits and cottontails, and thirty species of hares.”
There you go, AndHenry. Right from Wikipedia.
I think most people are surprised I’m having a “human” baby because I’m such a huge animal lover and I treat my animals like my babies. Have you seen all the halloween costumes, bday pics, etc of my buns? But that won’t change, my buns will always be my babies. And I’ve been a member here for a pretty long time with only bunny/cat/horse babies.
Yes, I will share pics of the nursery. Going on a road trip next week to Nova Scotia to pick up a bunch of stuff I saw in an online ad. All kinds of Peter Rabbit nursery accessories.
Congrats! Yes your life will change forever but its not a bad thing. If you can handle bunnies, a baby wont be hard at all! Seriously, you will speak the same language as your baby so he/she can *tell* you when something hurts, etc. Moms just know what each cry, look, etc mean. Who could ask for more — bunnies and a baby!
Come on now AndHenry, you own your very own lagomorph so don’t let anyone tell you that Henry is a rodent. =p
I didn’t realize there were so many species of pika. Thirty?
Vit congratulations! I can’t wait to see nursery pics!
OMG I love pika!
Now, if only you could litter train a baby human as easily as you can a baby bunny… lol!
Thanks LPT – I’ll be sure to remember all that ????? (not) HA HA HA!
And that’s ok to treat your non human babies as babies – I DO! When my George (dog baby) gave birth to her puppies I told my daughter she was an Aunty! LOL! Your gonna love being mum – as much as we love our ‘babies’ there’s nothing quite like being a mum to a human baby (till they grow up and cost you a fortune and stress you out! ha haha). Again, so happy for you and your hubby! and I can’t wait for your name choosing forum – I’m guessing your gonna let us BBer’s pick that out for you???? LOL!
Trust me LBJ – If Henry ever gets spotted (by someone we don’t trust) HE is an oversized RODENT! ha ha ha….. (and we know nothing – didn’t see a thing!) ha haha…. though the way he acts I’m sure we can pass him off as one of the DOG’S!
PS – I agree with JR, if you can handle a bunny rabbit, a baby will be a breeze! Lol!
PPS – You can make matching outfits LPT, how CUTE would that be!!!!!!
Edit to ADD – Pika? No! Don’t tell me !
AndHenry – Oh you DO want to know! =D
Congrats!
I WILL SAY CONGRATS ON HERE AS WELL! I also was shocked when I saw that on Facebook earlier – shocked in a very excited SQUEALLLLL way!
What are you hoping you have??! Does the hubby know what he wants??!! SQUEALLLL
I’m so happy for you!!! I’m pretty sure I congratulated you already but I’ll say it again! Congrats!
My guess is that the bunnies will adjust just fine to having a baby around. They might wonder what all the new noises are but they will get used to them.
I bet your nursery will be adorable!!! I’ve seen so many cute bunny nursery things on Pinterest that I wanna make for my own room!!!
Again, so happy for you and your hubby! and I can’t wait for your name choosing forum – I’m guessing your gonna let us BBer’s pick that out for you???? LOL!
Haha! The Bub will end up with middle name being McFluffypants or something.
Hey LPT, do you think Ricky would go for Bumba?
I think ‘McFluffyPants’ is to long Jersery – I’m voting for ‘FLUFFY’! Ha ha ha hah ha!
(who wouldn’t want a baby girl or boy called ‘Fluffy’?) LOL!
I’m sure Stephanie will have lots of nicknames for the little one.
McFluffypants was a bunny name suggestion from Monkeybun, many moons ago. I forget the 1st part of that name tho.
Ooops! Sorry Monkeybun…. he hehe he he (I love the name!) lol!
I’d really love to know the first part of the name Monkeybun???
PS – nicknames? stinkybum will be the favourite? Ha ha ha ha ha……
So do I, JG! lol. Would make a great last name, its long enough to instill fear in the heart of the child when Mama uses their full name… rofl!
LOL Monkeybun!
I’d really love to know the first part of the name Monkeybun???
You know what? I think it was Fluffy McFluffyPants!
Ok, I just searched the term diaper cover bunny on google images…
It’s too much cute all in one place.
That’s it! WE named LPT’s new baby – Fluffy McFluffyPants! (Gee…. I hope she and Ricky like it???) Ha ha ha ha ha…..
HRH Fluffy Bumba McFluffyPants.
That’s a pretty memorable name, don’t you think?
Sounds good to me Jersey! Sooooo, who’s gonna give LPT the good news – we named her baby? HA HA HA!
Actually lets just wait for her to find out herself when she catches up with her thread – what a SURPRISE! Lol……
lol, McFluffyPants! Ricky already told me I’m not allowed to give the baby all kinds of weird nicknames like I do with the buns! Too bad!!!!
I think we are probably going to clash on names. I like really unique names and, well not sure what kind of names he likes. We haven’t’ discussed them too much. I have a list going of names I like. My two top names are Archer for a Boy and Everlee for a Girl.
I’m really hoping for a little girl. Girls tend to be more into bunnies and horses. Things that I like! I want my kid to be a bunny lover and equestrian! Ricky wants a boy because boys tend to like the things he likes, guitar, Star Wars and action figures. We are only having ONE so we get what we get.
And it’s for sure not twins, because I had an ultrasound yesterday. My family has been joking that I would have twins. Not gonna happen!
Thanks again for all the congrats!
Everlee is so pretty – very unique but not weird at all. Archer, not sure about that but I guess it’s like Archie :~)
I have a client who names his son Tavern (he owns a pub so I guess it makes sense to name your son that).
Boys like horses too don’t they?
Definitely want to see photos of your nursery – decorating is the fun part of having a baby (in my opinion – I guess, I’ve never had children but I think it would be fun)>
When I hear Archer, I think of that weird cartoon. What channel is that on? The main character is voiced by the guy from Bob’s Burgers.
EDIT: Here’s the Wikipedia page. It’s on FX. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archer_%28TV_series%29
LPT – My niece is taking guitar lessons. She has a pink guitar. LOL
I LOVE Everlee!!
Saritas comment made me giggle out loud! Boys do like horses tooooo!
Your nursery sounds like it will be adorable! Pics are a must!
Oo I love Everlee!
Congratulations! <3
We didn’t get Porky till our son was 5, but I have had a pair of red eared sliders for almost 2 decades. We just kept our son away from them for the first few years. They aren’t very cuddly, but he enjoys feeding them. I think we started letting him with supervision around when he was 3 1/2. It probably isn’t as practical to just keep the baby and bunnies totally separate for years like that as it was with turtles.
My son adores rabbits and would be thrilled to take riding lesson if I hadn’t said “no” when I looked at the cost on the flier. My nephew loves Porky too.
I don’t know if my nephew has any interest in horses. My niece (the one that plays the guitar) loves horses though. She’s getting older now and I’m wondering how much longer she is going to express her love for horses. I guess kids at school have started teasing her about it.
Everlee is a nice name. Does it have any special meaning or do you just like the sound of it?
I think Everlee and Archer are both wonderful names. Everlee sounds confident and feminine. Archer sounds bold and masculine.
Having had 5 other girls with the same name as mine in my classes while growing up, I definitely prefer different names. Make sure you check the initials for anything unwanted, check the name for possible nicknames other people may come up with (that you may not want), and think hard about unusual spellings of names (ex. “Archer” is easy to spell — “Archyr” would be spelled wrong every time and that gets annoying!).
BTW, boys like bunnies too! Especially when they get to be teenagers and realize that *girls* really like bunnies! My son is the one who brought home our first bunny.
Boys can be into horses…it just isn’t as common as girls, and they can often take a lot of crap over it. I started horse riding when I was 7, and I’ve got ‘my’ very first bunny when I was 8! Still doing both of those things, 8 years later! I’m sure you’ll be just fine with whatever you have LPT! As long as s/he has 10 fingers and 10 toes, two arms, two legs, two eyes, two ears, a mouth. a nose, all the organs and everything else a healthy baby has, there isn’t really much more you could ask for! Rooting for a girl though…girls rock! And I’m totally not biased at all…….O.O
As weird as it may be to other people, Heidi-May sounds really pretty to me, as well as Addison and Eden.
I have two boys and they are little nerds, super into science and dinosaurs…they both love rabbits and enjoy learning about them and helping to feed them (I wish they could help clean but they’re too young still)
congratulations.
Hurrah. Another bunny slave on the way.
I thought girls were more into horses than boys. Hmmm. Learned something new.
Congratulations!! What a wonderful surprise! I love Everlee (hope I spelled that right)
CONGRATS! I’m so happy for you and your Hubby! I like names that are a little uncommon too! Everlee is so pretty, and Archer is very nice too. I like the names Brianna, Holly, (Everlee), Kalista (Kah-lista), Jonathan, Michael, (Archer), Derek. Can’t wait to see pics of the nursery!
OH! and October is such a pretty month to be born in! I was born in October, and I think it’s nice, sometimes there’s a light dusting of snow, sometimes it’s still hot enough for you to go swimming, and the pretty orange-red colors of the leaves!
Good luck!
bunnygirl – I had a group of kids last fall for a school hike and there was a BOY named Eden. But it wasn’t pronounced E-den. It was pronounced Ed-en (like Ed in Edward, but Ed-en). Of course I saw his name tag and said Eden like the Garden of Eden and he looked so pissed. I don’t think his parents thought that one through very well.
Oh yes, do be careful about initials! My niece’s initials are CKK and I can’t help but wonder if they intentionally spelled her first name with a C instead of a K.
Thanks again everyone!
Little boys tend to like horses but they tend to grow out of them very fast. Although my little niece is taking riding lessons with a boy who’s 11 and he is totally in love with horses.
LBJ10- I love that cartoon “Archer”. One of my faves! Not where I go the name idea though. I liked it before the cartoon. The name Everlee I got from the girl the Guns N Roses song “Sweet Child O Mine” was written about: Erin Everly, who was Axl Rose’s gf at the time. I just changed the spelling. I think it sounds so pretty. I’ve been a huge GNR fan since I was about 8 years old and we used Sweet Child O Mine as our grand entry song for our wedding so it does have a nice meaning.
I didn’t find out at my ultrasound if the baby was a girl or a boy since it was an early ultrasound, only 15 weeks. I will probably find out after my next one, at about 20 weeks. I showed the pics to my sis and her hubby though and they both think it’s a girl. They have 3 kids, two girls and one boy, so I’m hoping they know what they are talking about!
That’s pretty cool LPT! I would have never guessed that.
I like the names you chose. The girl name is really pretty. 20 weeks is a good time to find out if you are having a girl or boy. My son’s fiancé wanted to find out before then. I think she was 16 going on 17 weeks. The ultrasound technician told her that she thought it was a girl but to come back in a couple of weeks to be sure. So for a couple of weeks she thought she was having a girl. I went with them. There was a viewing room ( I didn’t even know those existed) where we could watch. As soon as she put the device on her stomach to start the ultrasound she said its a boy. He wanted to make it known once and for all he was a boy.
I take it you are hoping for a girl. I hope you get what you want. Either way as long as its healthy I am sure you will love it. =)
Oh I wanted to say my son loves animals. He is my only child. He takes after me when it comes to that. He has even thought about being a veterinarian. I am sure your child will be an animal lover too if you are as well. =)
OMG LPT I JUST SAW THIS 0_0
Sorry for shouting, but what wonderful news! I’m so happy for you and Ricky.
You should’ve seen the laundry list of baby names I had for my two…none of which my OH liked.
Looking forward to seeing some of the photos of the nursery and the cute bunny themed items you’ll be collecting for the baby.
I am having a chuckle – I LOVE choosing names, yet for my 3 kids I only had the ‘one’ name picked out for each baby, and I wanted ALL girls, LOL! And the ONLY name I wouldn’t have used for a boy, luckily she was a girl (my first born) is Jaime. If she had of been a boy, she may still be nameless to this day? Ha ha ha. And the other girls names I had picked out I still used them for my boy’s – Blair and Denny. If I had 2 more kids (NO!!!) I would have called them Charlie and Stevie. Oh, and I really love the name Mackenzie, and…… ok, I’ll stop now! HA HA, told you I love names, yet I only ever had the one picked out for each baby – go figure????? Gotta laugh – I do!
PS – I love both your names LPT! I am wishing a girl for you – I was desperate for my first to be a girl. But it’s true, as long as your bub is healthy that’s all that matters. But I will add, my daughter is very independent – my youngest son is definitely a mummy’s boy! (sshhhhh! don’t tell his girlfriend), LOL!
Any updates? I hope you are doing well.
I’ve been curious too. I hope all is going well and that you aren’t having much morning sickness. Mine was pretty rough with my son.
Thinking of you. xx
Congrats!!! I have two boys – the rabbits love them. They like my niece and nephew too (toddlers.) Once the baby gets mobile – you will just need to make sure there are areas baby is away from bunnies. Just in case bunny need bunny alone time. =)
Thanks, guys. I’m doing really well. No negative symptoms at all. I really don’t feel pregnant other than the growing bump! Clothes are not fitting so good now. I’m 21 weeks this weekend. Haven’t felt the baby move yet but I know he/she is moving because the ultrasound lady had a hard time on Friday because he/she was all over the place. I call my OB Doc Monday morning and she will tell me if it is a girl or boy. So excited!!!!!
HOW EXCITING, LPT! <3 Yayyyy. I'm so happy for you both! Do you have any names picked out yet? Don't mind me if you guys have decided to keep it a surprise, was just wondering!
I agree, HOW EXCITING!
Congrats again, so happy for you guys!
So you will know tomorrow? I think I’m more anxious then you!
Exciting!!!
It’s a GIRL!!!!! I’m so overjoyed!!!!!!!
You’re all special because you’re the first ones I’m telling!!!! Even before my husband, lol, since he’s at work. Not announcing it on Facebook yet, so please no writing anything about it on my FB page.
I called the Dr. this morning and the receptionist kept me in suspense for like 5 minutes with chatter on whether I thought it was a girl or boy and did I try any of the old wive’s tales, etc. She’s so chatty and friendly. I was so happy, I was shaking. I would have been happy with a boy too, don’t get me wrong, but I was really hoping for a girl. She said its’ pretty safe to start buying pink as the ultrasound is 98% accurate with results.
Ahhhhhhh, I’m so excited!
A GIRL, That is so awesome!
So happy for you, congratulations!
now you guys can start thinking of names
Congratulations!
It’s time to start thinking of getting her a pony :~)
Congrats! I’m so happy for you!
YAY a girl!!!
Congratulations! That’s wonderful
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay for girls! =D
Hehe, my mom always tells me that I was supposed to be a boy. They had a boy name picked out and everything.
YAY!
Congrats! I agree, find the pony!
So happy for you LPT!
Thanks, guys.
Yeah, a pony is a bit out of the budget right now, lol. She will have to make due with Winnie. Winnie loves kids and she’s so quiet and sweet when they ride her. She’ll def be riding horses before she can walk.
Still working on the names. Ricky and I have pretty different tastes and it’s quite frustrating actually. My point of view is, I’m carrying this baby and doing all the work, I should have more say in the name.
Tell hubby he gets to chose the middle name :~)
Congrats! I am glad to hear you are having the girl you wanted and are doing well. My son and his fiancé sure did have a hard time naming their baby that is due this summer but they finally agreed. You got some time so hopefully you find a name you both love. Again congrats I am excited for you!
NOT to take sides or anything…. BUT the men DO have to deal with all the the hormonal things and us wanting to kill them Hahahaha. Not sure if you’ve been experiencing many mood swings but I was a wrecckkkkkk. My BF said we should never go through that again and we are only ever adopting, LOL! ;P
What a lucky little girl to get such an accomplished outfit-maker for a mother. I so wish you the best!
OMG LPT!!! I am SO excited and SUPER happy for you, I know how it feels to want a girl and to actually get/have one. I had to wait till mine was born for me to know and in turn (except for buying white (cloth) nappies and singlets), I loved that all my friends and family were able to indulge me in everything pink (back in my day (NO! the dinosaurs didn’t exist, lol!) we were in hospital for 7 days) and I loved it! Not that pink is overly fashionable these days for girls (the variety of colours available now is amazing), I loved everything girly. Enjoy LPT!
PS – So are you still sticking with the name Fluffy McFluffyPants??? Lol……
PPS – Being serious…. I picked out ALL my kids names! ‘I’ did the hard work….. ha ha ha ha!
LPT, I know I read this post, but I just scanned all 4 pages and I never actually wrote my congratulations here!
(Bad, bad Rabbitpam)
Names are hard, especially when other’s give opinions (family, not us), but go with a favorite name you’ve liked for a while. You’ll be using it the rest of your life. Make sure it has a nice nickname to it. Don’t want to pick a name like Penelope, then have kids at school call her P-pee. You know what I mean.
Congrats, LPT! Little girls are a ton of fun to raise. (When they aren’t being a butt hahaha)
congratulations on the baby girl!!
I have two boys, they’re the grossest things ever… sometimes I fear I am just immune to everything poop, and boogy related :-p I wouldn’t know what to do with a girl haha
Oh my goodness LPT! Congrats!!! =]
