Thought it would be a fun little thread to discuss wether we are clutter/clutter free people, and if our bunnies are treated the same!

For instance, before getting Apollo, I could happily live in a messy room. Sure I didn’t know where anything was precisely…but I knew it was in the room ‘somewhere.’ However, since he came along, my room HAS to be tidy. I can’t stand to see his cage in a mess, and once I see the mess he creates, I see the mess around me. Then my head gets all cluttered and I start getting stressed, and a half hour tidy up follows. Same routine, every week!

So come on, who’s got a confession to make over their messiness?

What?! No confessions?! What’s your secret for being so tidy then?

I used to be the clutter type. Growing up we had a very active household with lots of people and that’s just how things were. After I moved out it was just normal and so it continued but I started an in-home daycare and did that for 10 years. It required a more tidy home as you can imagine. I haven’t done childcare in 3 years but the habit is still there so I can happily say that our home is much tidier now with the exception of the kitchen counter. This is where all our stuff accumulates. The weird part is that it is in the back of the house and not right where we come in the door. I also HATE doing the dishes. These will pile up a little bit til the sink is full (it’s just me and my husband). If I’m being completely honest, I hate cleaning the kitchen period. I don’t mind any other household chore and the kitchen is always last with the hope that I will run out of time and not have to do it .

Fun post. I having been decluttering my home for the past 7 years – I wouldn’t say I was a hoarder but I had lots of stuff. I did always keep a neat and tidy home (as best I could) with many rabbits as well. I am now down to 1 rabbit and 1 bird and I have to say I like it this way.

I now also have an actual guest room instead of a rabbit room – Bobby, my last rabbit, has free run of the whole house so no need for a condo or pen for him. He does have a little room of his own too which I do clean daily as well. I cleaned twice a day when I had more rabbits – morning and evening – it was exhausting. I have to say though that my bird is pretty messy – he throws stuff on the floor which I have to pick up daily and I have to clean his cage weekly too and it’s alot work cleaning his cage – well not alot but more than enough and more than Bobby.

It’s pretty easy for me to be tidy since it’s just myself and my husband – no children – I think that helps alot (although I’ve never had children so I can only speculate that it is a ton more work keeping tidy with children – not that it is a bad thing, it’s just how it seems to be based on what I hear from parents).

The truth is I hate cleaning too but having less stuff makes it easier – my house is about 1600 square feet – not enormous by any means, but not 800 square feet either (although that would be okay with me too). It takes me about 3 full hours on Saturday to vacuum, clean bathrooms. doing laundry (only 1 load for the week), dust, mop, etc….it probably really takes less than that but for good measure I’m saying 3 hours. I do tidy up daily and clean the kitchen daily (except mopping).

I’m basically just like how you are with tidiness Bunnygirl! I used to have so much stuff in my room. For the most part, my floor was usually kept clean but I had a big shelf with clutter, a desk with clutter, stuff shoved into a corner or between furniture, a very large aquarium that had a cover over top that I also put stuff on. Then Mimzy came along…I didn’t change much around my room since I wasn’t going to be keeping her (suuuure…) She was caged for the most part so it didn’t matter that much. I picked everything off the ground or blocked it with NIC grids whenever I wanted to let her out & slowly, the longer she stayed, the more the clutter & even furniture began to disappear.

I got rid of SO MUCH stuff lol. Now everything is forever picked up off my floor, I can no longer stand clutter! Anything that was able to be hung on the wall, went on the wall. I clean my room so often now, I probably vacuum at least every 3 days lol. All that belongs to me in my room now is my bed, a very small dresser, & my TV that is hung on the wall lol. The rest of the space is bunny property & my bird has his cage in my closet (no worries, no door & it’s completely open to my room)

              Bunnies take over!

I am an extremely tidy person. Always have been. My OCD fires up and I get really stressed if things aren’t clean.
The bunnies are really kept the same, I am constantly picking up turds!

Clutter. CLUTTER! I so wish I didn’t have clutter but it’s the sad truth.
I do clean up the area with the rabbits regularly though. I think all my energy for cleaning goes into them and I leave the rest.

As a kid we certainly had areas that got cluttered which is understandable with a large family. I think i was better then about tidying up then though. Lolabuns, we had a bench in our kitchen that everything got dumped on. I have one of those in my place now also. :siiigh:

Now when the mood hits, I am pretty ruthless about throwing stuff out. Problem is, the mood is hitting less & less frequently.

It feels so good when things are decluttered. I definitely need to focus on this and keeping it that way.

Sarita, your space appeared immaculate judging from that photo bomb pic of Bobby you posted!

I despise cleaning. Hate it. It takes me probably 1-2 hours per room just because of how much I dislike it so my attention wanders. So, yeah, my house isn’t spotless. The rabbits room gets swept and tidied daily (or it stinks horribly, since they will not be litter trained no matter what I do). But, I often do the animals areas then look at the rest of the house and go “Eh… later…” lol I keep it clean enough to live in, that is about it.

Doesn’t help my boyfriend is extremely messy, so it is cleaning up after myself, two rabbits with bad litter habits, a free flying parrot and a boyfriend. Too much effort to keep the place really clean. Especially with the buns not being good with the litter boxes.

You may have to pen this messy bf. They just can’t be free range when like that or it’ll drive you insane.

I used to be messy, until I married Hubby. He’s very tidy . Since getting our cat Lily we have become extremely tidy though. She will eat anything we leave anywhere and after paying about a grand to get her fixed up after she snuck into the closet and stuffed herself with broom bristles, we learned our lesson.

The other day I freaked out because I lost a little rubber band and there was no question she would have eaten it if it got dropped on the floor. I did find it eventually though .

My oh my!!!! I’m glad I’m not the only cluttered person here, hehe.

                            • Kitchen: Dirty dishes everywhere!
                            • Bathroom: Clothes and towels everywhere! You seriously do not want to look at my sink after I have groomed myself in the morning. That’s right…it’s a mess!
                            • Bedroom: More clothes…and still I have nothing to wear!
                            • Staircases: Hay, hay, and more hay!! It’s everywhere, even on my pants and socks!! *scream*
                            • Bunny room: Tidy and clean, picking up turds and swooping up hay 10 times a day.

It’s also only me and my boyfriend. So I just don’t bother. We prefer doing fun stuff together. But do you also find it easier to do something if you know your other half is also doing a house chore too? Doing the dishes together is way more fun than doing it alone. That just makes me cranky.

Tip: Invite people over. Then you just HAVE to make a good impression and clean everything

I have to admit that I was an only daughter growing up with three older brothers. I have always resented doing certain house chores “just because I’m a girl”. I had to clean the bathroom every week, my mother tried to force me to iron too but that I just outright refused that most of the time. She wanted me to learn how to iron and when I asked her if she would also ‘teach’ my brothers, she said “No”. (That said, I really look up to my mother. She was the first woman in de family who went to university and she has had a very good career and raised 4 children at the same time.)

So every time I have to iron now it automatically reminds me of gender and how it is linked to certain household chores AND I HATE IT! I just cringe up, get cranky and start spewing feminist nonsense. Can’t help it.

I HATE clutter.  Yet I am living in clutter.  Kitchen is super small. My rice cooker and can opener don’t fit in super small kitchen.  They are on spare couch in container  so cotton can’t get to the wires to chew them. Yes this spare  couch is our clutter couch.

Kitchen is cleaned everynite stove etc  nothing left out dishes are cleaned after every use nothing in sink I hate dishes in sink .  Fortunately sodoes hubby. Its my pet peeve.  The kitchens here are small.  Very small.  Hardly any counter space. 2 people cant fit comfortably in kitchen.

The thing is that we live in a small apartment.  Still we have too much stuff I would love to get rid of half of it. There would be so much more room.  Guess over the years I have gotten used to it. Hubby has issues with throwing stuff out.

My Mom is a clutterbug too.  Everything in its place but so many knick knacks = dust collectors,  kitchen gadgets.  The gadgets and shelf for them took up a whole wall in the bedroom.  I nicknamed my Mom ms. gadget lol.

We have pillows in chairs so cotton can’t get on the table to chew our papers. Pillows over our stuff on the spare couch again so cotton can’t chew the papers etc. on there. Cotton is the cleanest one here.  The floors are clean only bunny stuff like litterbox cage box n phonebook to chew is on the floor.  The rest is covered or on dining table  so he can’t get to it to chew hahahaha.

I hate dusting I dust about 3x a year hahahaha. Mom would have me dust every other day when I was little and she was at work.

Because of Cotton I vacuum 2x a week when I clean his litterboxes and cage.

I hear you Elleke  just because of gender not fair.

Sarita yes having less stuff makes it so much easier. I would love to have less stuff.  Spring and fall I love to throw stuff out. Hubby gets mad  He has issues about throwing stuff out.  He is on meds now. Dr. said it will help.

JG pen the messy boyfriend hahahahahaha  good one.  I so wish we didn’t have clutter too.

stickerbunny you take care of cleaning for your pets thats all that really matters.

Mimzy thats what hubby has done hung stuff on wall to make room on kitchen counters.  It has helped some.

Hazel  good you have a neat hubby but that crazy cat omg.  You having to be so careful.

LOL I wish hubby was more that way.

Whobot I have had to get used to clutter.   Glad you are neater.  See what a bunny does for us hahahaha.

Bahaha. It’s actually amusing because the humans are penned in this house. He is stuck in the living room area because the two bedrooms are owned by rabbits and he is allergic to them. And at one point I had his desk caged in with baby gates because I would rather cage the humans than the rabbits – but I needed to protect the wiring I couldn’t cover.

And yes, I DO find it much easier to do chores when someone else is doing them too. We usually split things up to he cleans X stuff, I clean Y stuff when we do them together. But, it’s rare, cause he never has the energy after working all week to clean anything.

My son was very excited when we bought him an iron and ironing board for Christmas last year Ellekke (I DON’T iron – no matter how much I like an item of clothing, I will NOT buy it if it ‘needs’ ironing, ha ha ha). And when he moved out a few weeks ago (with his mates), one of the first things he packed into his car was his beloved iron and ironing board! LOL! I still have my iron, but it’s been so long since I used it, I’m not even sure it works anymore???? Cheers.

You can have them BOTH – FREE! ha ha ha….

And I’m serious – after I wash my clothes, I give them a good flick to get the wrinkles out and hang them on a coat hanger on the clothes line to dry!
I was talking to my nana when I was a teenager saying how I heard some ‘weirdo’ ironed her underwear – she replied quite dignified ‘so do I’ – OOPS! Lol!

Maybe that’s because in those days, underwear was just huge or something

I lived in NJ for a bit with an ex and he had a maid. She would iron EVERYTHING. Jeans, t-shirts, underwear, socks… I felt like just going “You don’t need to iron my clothes, they are jeans and t-shirts, they do not get wrinkled. Save yourself the work!” lol But I got told not to cause she took pride in the work she did and would be insulted. So, I just felt bad my jeans were ironed and hung up on clothes hangers like they were some sort of dressy clothes that had to be treated well.

LOL Stickerbunny! My mum (years ago when I first moved in with the hubby) was helping me out and did some ironing for the family and ironed the hubby’s jeans – he was not happy with the ‘crease’ running down the middle/front (thought it was very UNcool!)! Whenever she visited after that, the hubby hid his jeans on the chance she offered to help out with some ironing again, ha ha ha hah……

I’ve always been a messy person. I keep my room clean enough to be safe for the rabbit. It’s mostly clutter. I keep throwing stuff out to make moving out (hopefully within the year!) easier. I keep the rabbit’s enclosure very clean. I don’t care about little poops here and there though.

Does anyone else feel that rabbit poops are so clean and tidy? When I first got a rabbit, I was very pleased at how small, dry, and uniform bunny poops are. It’s so different from dog or cat poops. So I don’t really care when my bun jumps out of the litter box and kicks them out onto the carpet. -.-

                                                      Hehehe, hide the clothes, quick!!

I too kinda know what Stickerbunny means though…

Sometimes when I leave the ironing for too long, my boyfriend just takes it to his mom. And then I feel slighted because I don’t want her to think I don’t take care of her boy. But then he looks at me funny because his mom is like one of the nicest & sweetest persons I have ever met. And she says she likes helping us out because she knows we both have very busy fulltime jobs. Reversed psychology!

@ Andi: My BF doesn’t iron. Unlike your son Andi! I really respect him for that. Be sure to tell him!

@Loplove: I have no problem whatsoever with the poops. But I swipe them up every time I go into their area
I have no experience with dog poo (unless when I step in it because some *censored* dog owner doesn’t pick up his pets’ crap). Can you make a dog go to a litter box? My neighbour has a dog (a border collie) who spents all her time in a small yard (no grass, pebble stones, the poor thing) and she just goes wherever. And then my neighbour just comes along with a shovel and scoops it all into one corner. YUK!!!!!

If my hubby’s mother feels that I’m not looking after her son ‘good enough’ she can have him back! He’s the messy hoarder in our house. I’m a bugga for ‘if you don’t use it in a year’ then it gets thrown out. The hubby often tells everyone to move themselves and their stuff around cause if it sits still for too long I will throw it in the bin! ha ha ha. I hate clutter! and I hate housework! Just in the last week or so I threw out some nice ornament stuff cause I was sick of dusting it for the sake of it looking pretty and not serving a purpose. I kept all my photo frames and candle ornaments cause I do like to light a candle or 20! LOL!

OH and stepping in someone’s else dog poo is the absolute worst ever!!!!!!!! I’ve stepped in my own dog’s poo in my own yard (and Henry’s in the house) and that’s gross – but someone else’s?!?!? don’t get me started!!!!!!

And maybe my son picked up the habit of ironing after living his childhood in ‘un’ironed clothes, ha ha ha ha ha…….

Yeah dog poop is disgusting I’m very careful so I haven ever stepped in it but I had a hamster and he opened his cage somehow and got lose in my room and pooped in my closet (full of non ironed clothes) and it was disgusting but when I walk outside and see bun poop I’m just like “aww a bunny was here”

I love how we are all pretty much united in our inability to care about bunny poops!

Being interested in psychology – expect plenty of threads about your habits and such, I’m trying to figure out if I wish to make a career out of it! Hope you don’t mind!

I don’t mind bunny poop, but my boyfriend finds it as disgusting as any poop. He’s a weirdo.
