        Hi

I was playing with my rabbit today and he has these lines (just on his back along his spine) and they look like bald spots or something because they are darker than the rest of his fur and a little choppier. What do you think it is?? I can get a pic maybe but he is always moving and I don’t really know how to post a pic on here. I am not that good on computers So what do you think it is :/

        Thanks

        Anne

He is likely having a molt. The fur will grow back, don’t worry about it, completely normal for bunnies.

I wouldn’t. Since he is used to drinking out of a bowl, a bottle would be unnatural and could cause him to drink less. Drinking is especially important during a molt to prevent blockages. I would just change it often.

Ok thanks! But what are the chance of him getting a blockage?? And he has not been drinking that much water lately. Do you think I should worry? And how long do the molts last :/

If you brush him lots and make sure he always has hay, blockages shouldn’t really be a problem. As long as he is drinking his regular amount of water, I wouldn’t worry.
Molts can last anywhere from a few days to a few months, depending on the bunny. But I find it generally takes about 2 weeks.

Definitely groom thoroughly every day during a molt to prevent a blockage. Make sure to offer lots of hay, fresh water and wet veggies. And also, monitor poops for smaller sized poops or strung together poos.

I bought it online should of read reviews. Do you think I should go buy one?? I heard that the cat ones work best is that right? And I have a brush like the cat one but are dogs used it and we just took her to the vet for ticks :/ Do you think it is ok to use?? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the help!

The brush you use depends on the type of fur your bun has. For my wooly Mini-Lop I use a slicker made for toy dogs. And for my silky, short haired bun I use a Small Animal Furminator. This also worked great on my Mini-Rex.

During a big molt, however, the best method for both my buns, is the wet hands method. I keep a bowl of warm water in my grooming area, wet my hands, shake off the excess and rub my hands over the bunny, going with the fur. Then you can rub your hands together to get the fur off. This works great and gets off insane amounts of fur that would otherwise be licked off. I do this every night until there is no longer fur coming off. It’s great for getting under the belly as well.

I have a slicker brush but he has very short and smooth fur. Do you think that is ok to use and then i have another brush it is like the old fashioned hair brushes with those bunches of stuff sticking out of it

Oh and the furminator you have is VERY exspensive! I can not afford it! :/ And the slicker brush do you think that is too rough :/ Because I don’t want to hurt him

I would either use the wet hands or a kitchen glove a few times a day, bunnies do have very sensitive skin. Those methods tend to work better anyway.

My bunny is going threw exact same thing, I bought a pack of wide bristled combs from my local dollar store and it does the job pretty nicely,

We use a lint roller with sticky paper on it. Just peel the paper off when it’s full and keep rolling. If Ellis is willing, we will get 4-5 sheets off of him in a grooming session. It’s also helpful to clean ourselves up after we’ve groomed him.

He’s a short-hair (black silver marten), so this works well. The roller pulls off anything loose, without getting anywhere near his skin and scratching. We told the vet this was how we were handling his molts and she thinks it’s a great idea.

two of mine are moulting right now, it’s driving me nuts! (I can’t stand seeing loose fur) I vacuumed Rodan the other day 😮 lol and Lucky’s face looks so ridiculous because of his new “layers” lol
