I know this question gets asked a lot but I’m really confused!

Mimzy & Kenobi are both litter trained, Obi had trouble when I first brought him home which was to be expected & after about a week being here, his litter habits were perfect!! Mimzy tossed her habits to the side when he came here which was also expected for territory reasons but she slowly got back on track.

After bonding, I knew there would be litter training all over again, but how long will the territory markings last? They’ve been completely bonded for a bit over a month now, most of their business is done in their litter box but they started going right outside of their cage right next to where the litter box is. I clean it with vinegar every time, sometimes it’s pee. I imagine this is because the litter box is right there, that corner might smell like hay, so that made sense & I just kept sweeping them up & putting them in the box. Then they started going in a new corner not next to the litter box, it’s mostly Obi. So I put a second litter box in that corner as well & then he just moved over & is going right next to second litter box -.-

When I leave the room, for the most part they are good! I’ll come back & often times there will be nothing on the floor. But if I’m in the room, Obi starts using the restroom wherever he wants. It’s now becoming very scattered.

The other night I had let them stay out in my room all night because they were doing good, I woke up to find poop scattered everywhere The poo isn’t hard to clean up, but it’s just tiring with how much they’re doing it now & it seems to be getting more & more. I just took Obi to the vet a few weeks ago, he checked out perfectly fine, so idk if he’s just rebelling or if there’s still territory marking going on?? For the most part, it’s at least kept on one side of the room.

Since they haven’t been well with litter habits lately, I was going to re-do litter training from square 1, so I had them in their cage all day today (I know, it’s horrible & I hate doing that) But they were close to perfect using their box all day today! A little bit was outside the box but still on the same floor as the box & I’m used to it being like that, so that was great! So it seems it’s only when I’m in the room & they’re out running around. Any thoughts?

Sigh I feel your frustration! I’ve been having the same problem with Frodo. Today is the first day that out of the blue, he just stopped doing it. No speck of pee anywhere! It’s a mystery!!

I had to sit in their room, let them out and correct him every time. If he let some pee slip I whiped it up, let him smell it and then put a slice of the tissue into one of my litterboxes. I still have several boxes since they’re not fixed yet. I think it was also an issue that Frodo liked the old corner litterboxes better and was rebelling against the new box.

Hang in there!! I know it’s not fun
