Hi all!  I’m new here, being a relatively new bunny “mom”   My hubby is a vet and Sylvia Rabbit came to us via a client who found her living under a dumpster in a parking lot.   She is probably 9 months old (but we can’t be sure) and was spayed several months ago.   She’s always been very good about using the litter box, but since she was spayed she uses it 100% of the time IN her cage.   No droppings, no pee outside the box.  HOWEVER, she has one spot in our kitchen (her room when she is out of her very large cage which is in the same room) where she goes and pees and poops.  Also, she binkys around that area and poop flies around as does urine.  Why does she do this and how can I control it??   She doesn’t go anywhere but this one spot.   I’m thinking of putting a small litter box there when she’s roaming.   Would that help?   Any suggestions?   I’m having to learn as I go, as we’ve never had bunnies before.   She is not at all stressed and loves to play with our three cats and two dogs who either ignore her or play back.

I would try putting a large cat size litter box there…

Does she ever get locked in her cage or is she free roam in the kitchen 24/7?

I have two litter boxes for my bun. One in his cage, one in the kitchen, my buns have actually always liked a box in the kitchen, maybe because I’m in there a lot?

Also, if the house had a pet in there before, and the pet “marked” a spot, sometimes a bunny will be attracted to marking there as well.

Nessie picked a spot outside of her cage to pee and poop while she’s running. Lucky for me it’s in the bathroom. The simplest solution is to put a litterbox there like you suggested. She’ll go right in the box and you won’t have to keep cleaning up the floor

Thanks for the help and suggestions! Beka, she has a two level, 48″ cage from Leith Petwerks (which I highly recommend, by the way) that she is locked in when we are gone and also during the night. During the day, she and the other pets have the run of the kitchen. In retrospect, it does appear that she may be marking this spot, so I will put another litter box there and see what happens. In addition to squatting and urinating there, there are splatters of her urine on the nearby walls (good thing it’s orange or I’d never see it..lol). Is this normal? Again, we are learning as we go having never had rabbits before. Also, I am going to try to post a picture of her because I can’t figure out what type of rabbit she is…..none of the “usual” breeds seem to look like her.

I agree about the Leith Petwork condo’s – they are fantastic and good looking too.

Orange is a normal color for rabbit urine – it can vary from clear to white to brown. I imagine too it is marking since you have other animals – I guess too because it’s in the kitchen you cannot really clean the floor with vinegar like you would with rugs or carpets….

Would love to see a picture.
