I’m giving in and finally asking a question about poop. I’ve been searching all over and can’t come up with a definitive answer.

Rufus has lately been producing fecal pellets that are the same size as normal and very numerous but they are darker, shinier and definitely much smellier than I have noticed before. Definitely no trace of parasites (no visible ones anyway) or mucous or anything just a bit consistently different to normal. He is also leaving more outside his litterbox than ever before.

Is this marking do you think? There has been a pesky cat hanging around that at one point got into my bedroom where he lives (10 days ago). Or do you think this is something I need to see the vet about? He seems very happy and healthy apart from that, he’s eating like a champ and running around like a lunatic.

LOL – I wouldn’t worry about this – fecal pellets can vary based on many factors and as long as he’s eating and pooping I wouldn’t worry. It does sound a bit like marking since the pesky cat gave him a scare.

Thanks Sarita. The smell is just driving me a bit bonkers since he lives in my bedroom. Hopefully it will die down soon.

Sure sounds like territorial poop. Smells bit like corn chips & shiny. Yay…

Yep, sounds like marking poops. Mine produce droppings with a slight oily sheen to them that stink when they want to mark.

… Jersey, you now have made corn chips even grosser to me ! lol

I never liked corn chips before either and definitely not going to start now! Lola does this too….often times in a circle around me when I’m sitting on the floor or whenever the two dogs are out. You are right on about the smell though…definitely similar to corn chips…ew ew ew!
