Recently I joined this forum and some of you may have noticed I posted about getting my bunny “neutered” to help the nipping problem. Well, surprise! I went in for a neuter because the breeder told me it was a male, and I came out with a spay! I have a little girl bun after all.

I got her spayed about 6 weeks ago, and the nipping problem has not gotten any better. In fact, Mosley will purposely hop over to me, nip my arm, then leave.  what a little snot haha. I have tried yelping, saying NO!, and picking her up and saying NO very sternly. I don’t know how to get her to stop it, she is getting worse. I thought the spay would help, but it hasn’t with the nipping.

        Help?

I have the same problem with my Lola. At first it was just if I stopped petting her or giving her attention she’d nip my arm. Then she started following me around the room and nipping my legs..really hard. I have no idea if she is spayed or not. I had an appointment two weeks ago but her liver enzymes were too high and they wouldn’t do it. We have to go back in a few weeks for another blood test to see if the meds worked. But in the mean time, she is peeing everywhere and the nipping. Yelping and saying no don’t work on her either. Honestly I am almost hoping she isn’t spayed at this point, even though the surgery scares me, because I don’t know how to get her to stop doing either.

Sounds EXACTLY like Mosley. I wonder if it’s a female thing? Idk I’m annoyed the spay didn’t help Mosley quit it…hopefully someone with more knowledge about females/nipping will write in and help us!

I have learned a few tricks for miss Lola to help for the most part (like getting her food BEFORE I open her cage in the morning NOT after) and she isn’t breaking the skin at all. If I yelp she is more gentle but only for awhile and only if she is ultimately getting whatever it is that she wants (like when she nips when i’m petting her, if I stop she just does it harder). I always have big baggy sweatshirts on, I wonder if it is sometimes just the sweatshirt she is going for because she has a blanket that she loves to “taste” or move around.

You know it’s funny you say that about the sweatshirt, I am always wearing baggy sweatshirts with her as well and have wondered if that is what she is going after. But, I’m scared to find out that it might just be because she wants to nip when I have short sleeves on in the summer lol..

She has come over and nipped my butt or legs while I’m wearing tight leggings though, so idk how to explain that. I give her so much attention, and let her run around on her own if she wants. I don’t know how I deserve to be nipped all the time! ugh haha

Haha what breed is she? Maybe it’s a female lop thing? Lulu is the same way. She is almost four and was spayed at six months. She will nip a lot and for many many different reasons. Yeah… The whole saying NO and picking her up looking mad/being stern doesn’t help. Pretty much our relationship is I do what she wants, not the other way around, and she gets her way one way or the other. :/

My bun is a Jersey Wooly. She doesn’t have lopped ears, they stick up. Do you think it is just a female thing? I would love to hear what other owners of female buns have to say about this. Even if I do everything Mosley wants, she will still come over to nip me JUST for the fun of it and leave.  I don’t get it! There has to be a way of letting them know they can’t do that.

I’m beginning to think that the buns are not the pets here….we are…

I don’t wear leggings but she does try to nip my blue jeans (she just can’t get as good a hold as when i’m in my jammy pants) so I know it’s not ALL about the sweatshirt thing here too. Lola had the run of the house until just a few days ago (I’m afraid we’re going to have to pay for the carpet when we have to move because of all the peeing) but she gets so much attention I don’t get anything done all day. It is NOT because she is neglected lol. She still has the run of the dining room (she hates the floor and won’t touch it but we have a couple rugs lined up so she has a some room to run outside her cage), an x-pen in the living room (with linoleum topped with a rug under it) and a huge bunny condo that she is only locked in at night. She doesn’t do binkys but she flops all the time so I know she isn’t completely unhappy (she is holding a bit of a grudge about losing the run of the living room) so that can’t be the reason either. My husband says it’s just a love bite (after he makes sure I’m ok) and that she must not like him cause she hardly ever nips him! How did I get to be the lucky one?!? She is lucky she is so dang cute that it is impossible to get mad at her!

I don’t know, but you defiantly can’t figure them out! And that’s a good point… I think we’ve had it backwards- we are their pets
