        Hello!

My male lop is about a year old and was neutered about six months ago. Sometimes when he is playing, running, and jumping around he makes this humming or buzzing noise. It almost sounds just like a bee! Does anyone know what this means? I thought it might be a mating thing, but like I said, he’s been neutered. Is it just his way of saying he’s having fun? Thanks!

          oooooh, cute honking!
I have a 6ish month old male who has been neutered about 6 weeks and he used to buzz like a bee and honk like a clown car at everything. Now he only does it when it’s dinner or treat time, or if he’s running around and excited. I believe it’s just a happy noise they make when they’re excited, even once they’re fixed!

My neutered male does this right before he starts humping a stuffed toy. Not really sure what it means. I suspect it’s an excitement thing.

This can definitely be from excitement! My male would do this as well right before he would hump his female bonded mate (both fixed, of course!)

Interesting! Giles has never humped anything, he must just be easily excited! He usually does it when I approach his cage, does this mean he has “claimed me” as his mate, or do neutered rabbits not really do that? He also nips at my pant legs frequently. Maybe it all relates?

Lola hums all the time. If she is hopping around, she is humming. She has never humped anything either but she does nip me constantly.

When I had Ruby she would hum and honk when I would hold her and pet her.  She never tooth purred.  This hum and squeaky honk was her happy noise that she enjoyed being petted and even held.  She was handled since birth by the family I got her from so  she was so calm and didn’t mind being held.  She would jump in my arms.

I’m new to bunnies. And I was going to ask the exact same thing. Bryonie makes this buzzing noise when she first runs about out of her hutch in the morning and when she jumps on the sofa to come and see me. Glad to know it means shes happy. I was worried at first as it sounds a bit like wheezing!

I think your rabbit is a very happy boy, Olly does it and he is neutered , cats pur when they are happy, dogs make a noise a bit like we do a sort of sigh, rabbits hum because they are happy, Why do bees hum? Because they don’t know the words, so your bunny is humming his happy song.
