When we first got our bunnies we were using the plastic cat litter boxes and lining them with a plastic shopping bag. Then they started ripping apart the plastic bag. For fear they would ingest the plastic we opted to just us the box without the bag liner. Now they are starting to gnaw on all edges of the box and have actually taken chunks out of it! We know this isn’t healthy for them so is there anyone out there who uses something that is not plastic and/or easily destructible?

You could use a large rectangle cake pan, but the sides aren’t very high. I would try to get a litter box with more of a folded rim, so there are no loose edges to chew.

I don’t think they have them any more, but last year I got a litter box made from bamboo at PetSmart. It doesn’t feel like wood, it feels harder, more like some kind of metal, and it doesn’t seem like it would be easy to chew on. It’s a good, heavy box that can’t be easily shoved around and the sides are a little bit higher. The reason I don’t think they have these litter boxes now is because the last time I happened to go by them in the store, they were on closeout. But it’s possible that some stores still have them.

I haven’t used them in a while, but I used to use these Nature’s Miracle Disposable Cat litterboxes. They come in packs of 2 or 3, and are made out of paper I believe. They would get chewed down, and after a couple of weeks or months I would replace it with a brand new one! Also nice because I never had to scrub the box. It wasn’t cost effective for me in the end, but they were very nice and convenient.
