I got a new baby bunny after my other passed away (RIP Murphy). I named her Moosey Bear, call her Moose! She is a Mini Lionlop!  :bunnyhop: She is only about 5 weeks (her mother passed away at 4 weeks). She is full of life! loves to run around and climb on me when im sitting or laying down. Also loves to cuddle with my stuffed animals. Did have a couple of questions though…

She has been on a complete diet of water and pellets, some timothy hay. But since she was weened at 4 weeks will she be okay?
Also, her ears are curling at the tips, I heard this could be from a vitamin deficiency but also heard this can happen in lops/lop mixes? Could this mean her ears are just going to lop? I am hoping to have half lopped (SOOOO CUTE!) but I love her!
Just want to make sure she’s okay! 🙂  :pancake:  :pancake:

Your bunny is so sweet. That’s very sad about her mother. I don’t know much about bunnies that young, but I would def recommend taking her to see a rabbit savvy vet asap to make sure she’s healthy.

          Welcome to BB

Adorable! I am sorry about her mom.
Welcome to BB, I cant wait to hear more about you and your bun!
I second that you should take her to the vet to make sure she is healthy!

I might do so soon! I know vets for buns can be very exspensive

She should be fine, it’s a bit young to lose mom, but I’ve seen babies thrive even when that has happened. Do you know any of her back story? What mom ate etc? I ask because babies eat mom’s poo to get the good bacteria for their own guts. If mom was eating greens, she can probably eat greens of the same type, and that would be good for her, but if you don’t know that…you’ll have to be careful.

alternately, if you have a friend with a healthy bunny on a healthy diet, see if you can get some of their poos for your bun and she might nibble on them.

Lack of proper gut flora to digest a proper diet is what kills many baby bunnies, green are not bad for them if they’ve had a chance to get the good bacteria from mom.

Yes, hopefully she did get some of this from her mum before she passed. *Binky free momma bun*.
I had one of my rabbits from 4 weeks old and had some fears about how he’d do. Happily, he thrived.

She is very sweet! You should have a lovely bond with this bun bun.

                  Welcome : )

                    I meant to add…

Consider some pet insurance because it will save you a lot over the course of your pets life. Yes, vet care is expensive by its pretty well unavoidable. It should give peace of mind knowing you can seek vet care when needed without being left out of pocket.
VPI is the only company I know of that covers rabbits. Other members might know of some alternatives.

As to knowing more about our rabbits, stick around on the forums and you’ll hear ALL about them! Lol. That’s nearly all we talk about.

Thank you guys so much! And I am not too sure of what her mom ate but im sure I can contact someone who would know! Ive been feeding her pellets mixed with a little bit of hay and she gets plenty of fresh water she seems to eat quite a bit. Just got her a new food dispenser yesterday! But she is very sweet! Loves to cuddleup next to me! *

Hello! I love that her name is moose and she is one of the smallest breeds. Love the irony! My holland lop Lulu was weaned around four weeks and I got her quickly after and she has been good for the most part. She has had some health issues but it’s hard to pinpoint how it was caused. But several bunnies are just fine at that age! Definitely get her seen by a rabbit savvy vet. Sometimes the cost isn’t too bad. It varies by area.

She’s adorable! I saw some photos you posted on another thread, so tiny! Very sorry to hear about mommy as well She seems to have a very good home with you though as I can tell you care a lot about her already. Definitely agree to get her to a rabbit savvy vet soon as you can, they can be expensive but definitely should be done. My rabbit’s vet had a free first exam & he was also pretty knowledgeable about them, you can hope to find one like that but most importantly, someone who knows what they’re doing, & like BunnyLady said, depending on your area, the cost might not be too bad.
