Hey everyone. I just adopted by bun a week ago as well as had her spayed a week ago. I am worried because I can’t tell if her incision is healing right since I’ve never had a spayed rabbit. There is dry blood around the area but none seems new but I don’t know whether to still be concerned. It’s so hard for me to be able to check on it but this is as good of a picture as I could get. Should I take her to the vet or calm a bit..

It’s hard to see in the picture. All I see is what appears to be dried blood.

I’m sorry she’s fussy about being picked up but I’ll see of I can snap another picture. But is any dried blood normal to even be there?

Sometimes you see a little bit. Usually the bunny will clean it off though. Unless she is completely ignoring the area.

Looks a little rough. Does she have access to things she an climb? Looks like she ripped a little stitch. I would just CALL the vet and let them know. Make sure she is not bleeding any new blood. I wouldn’t freak too much unless it keeps bleeding, but definitely keep a close eye on it. Can you get her to stand for a treat and look then?

MK – Yeah, it’s really hard to tell from the pic, but you could be right.

How is it looking now? Is your rabbit still recovering okay?

I just got my Leia spayed today, and the dr told me I couldn’t pick her up to check her incision for several days. So how can I check it?

If she’s in a cage or pen, try holding a favourite food above her so she’ll stand on her back legs to eat it. She’ll lean her front legs against the side to support herself and you should be able to get a look at the incision site while she preoccupied.
