What is the minimum floor space for a single rabbit? What about 2 rabbits? And do second levels count?

Also, does anyone know the area of this cage?

Ohhh, no, definitely don’t get one of those!

First of all, the minimum space that a single bun must have at all times is 4ft by 2 ft, but this is really the bare minimum for a small bunny. Two would need twice that.

The area of this cage is approximately 6ft by 3 ft.

I personally would strongly advise against this kind of cage for a few reasons. I’m also going to add that I used to own one of these (for keeping chickens – I wouldn’t advise it for them either).

          1) Do your bunnies live outside? We would advise they be kept inside for many reasons which I shan’t go in to now. If they live inside, I don’t know why you’d want a house like this.
So I’m going to assume as I go on that you are keeping them outdoors.
          2) It’s not very big. Especially as you have two bunnies.
          3) The space that is sheltered (the plastic bit) is especially small – in cold weather/rain, or if you plan to shut them in at night, there isn’t much room for them.
          4) Price!!  It’s very expensive for what it is (a tiny house with a run attached).
          5) You have to move it like everyday because it destroys your garden (this may or may not be an issue, I don’t know!)

If I were you, I’d try to keep the bunnies indoors. If you can’t, I’d suggest you look for the biggest accommodation for them you can find for your budget (I’m sure you will find much bigger than this).
          Hope this helps!

I don’t think that would be a good cage as the plastic “hutch” offers little ventilation or light. I also doubt the wire grate that goes on the bottom of the run. You would need it to prevent them from digging out, but it could hurt their feet. The minimum for 1 bunny is 2 feet by 4 feet, but that is still rather small. Second levels, while they are great, do not count towards the minimum floor space of the cage. Two rabbits need at least twice 2×4. If your bunnies live outside, please consider bringing them in, them you can house them in a much more suitable and cheaper cage, such as an nic condo or x-pen

This is the set up I have.. I realize it could be bigger but I did my best! I did a lot of research on buying hutches online, etc. The price is just ridiculous and they are all way too small!

I got the hutch for free off kijiji and made some updates to it to make it more secure and safe. I made the run myself and cut a hole in the hutch and made a ladder for it. The run is 6 feet by 3 feet, and the hutch is the same. They love it! And the run cost under $50 to make.

Sometimes indoor housing just isn’t an option for some of us.. But I don’t feel bad at all because they love being outside and romping around. They are spoiled to death and come indoors daily for atleast a few hours.

Thanks guys! I love your hutch by the way, peanutandbutters!

Until I move, the buns have to live outside, no matter how much I have pleaded with my parents. Trust me- I would rather have them indoors. It would be so much better. But I can’t for now.

Okay so the minimum for my two would be 4 feet x 8 feet? Their hutch right now is much bigger than that. They get indoor time every day, and they come in when it rains so they don’t get wet. That’s another reason I want to bring them in…less of a pain.

                Thanks for the tips guys!
