Since the car is with the boyfriend, we had to drop her off and she’ll be there all day while he’s at work. Powder is sitting at home staying as close to me as he can get and so far napping. Poor baby was thumping in the carrier as soon as I put her in it, attacked the hay I put in there with her rather violently and was not a happy camper at all! I think she remembers last time the carrier made us have to “torture” her with medicine for nearly two weeks! Boyfriend took craisins with him so when he picks her up, he can bribe her into being happier.

NewBunny – She’s having a check up for her sneezing issues. The poor baby won’t stop sneezing. Should just be an exam, but she had to stay all day since boyfriend has our car and he’s working 7 days a week.

Powder seems to be enjoying his peace and quiet without her bullying him off his favorite sleeping spots lol

She is home – stressed out badly, poor little girl. She didn’t want to leave the carrier and now she’s hiding from me. She was panting so hard from stress that she made her sneezing really bad.

They put her on baytril 10mg strength 1ml 2x daily. They gave her the first dose, so I have to give her another tonight. Then keep going for a week and see how she is after that. They will refill if she needs it.

Now for the month of getting bunny butt and thumped at until she forgives me like last time!

Poor Bub. I hope she comes around soon.
If you find the baytril helps and she’s coped ok on it (appetite/ gut wise) I’d consider extending the course. Or has the refill prescription got a long expiry? So you can get a refill later if she has a recurrence without taking her back in?

It only lasts about 10 days in the fridge, because of what they mix it with. She is OK on it, except for hating me lol it doesn’t bother her digestion. The vet will refill if it hasn’t been too long since the last exam. Her last URI was in November, now she has one again. I wish I knew what was causing them.

If bacterial, it just might take a longer course to really knock it out. It’s hard to determine it though. Even with a culture there seems to be inconsistencies. But in my mind, if you see a change on the abx, that tells you it’s bacterial doesnt it? Unless there’s some other component in the med that helps open the nasal passages… I don’t know enough about baytril to say.

Some rabbits that are prone to being snuffly flare up with warmer temps or due to home heating. They seem to do better in cooler zones of the house. I had read…

Hm. It was extremely cold here this winter, we STILL haven’t turned off the heat at night and it’s spring! She does much prefer cold weather, so maybe I should keep the windows cracked in their room during the winter months so their room stays cooler if it can irritate snuffly buns? Powder seems immune to getting ill, but she’s a pretty fragile thing.

I’ve been trying to keep her area clean as well, but you know her, IMPOSSIBLE! I cleaned up the room when she was at the vet and Powder was the perfect little bunny all day and didn’t even leave a stray poop. She comes home and room is a mess again.lol And I caught her LAYING IN HER PEE. *sigh*

She did surprise me tonight by not fighting me tooth and nail about the medicine. She actually licked it up instead of spitting it out like in November. Bonus. And our vet is awesome and didn’t charge us to board her all day for the exam and total cost of exam+medicine was only a little over $40. I love my vet.

                            $40+? That’s fantastic!

Maybe they flavoured her meds up too?

Yeah, I just remember reading once about someone who saud they always keep a window open in the bun room for their snuffly one. The cooler air helped open up the nasal passages.
I’d also read once that a heater was triggering a rabbit to sneeze. Whenever they were on front of it, off they’d go.
Just anecdotes but might be worth testing the theory.

He has a pineapple mix he uses in the baytril, last time she didn’t care and hated it anyway. This time, she seems less opposed.

Our heat is central, but they have two windows I can crack for them. Will try and see if it helps, thanks. she is already feeling better it seems, fewer sneezes tonight, no gagging and she ran around a little

Got to give her a dose on my own for the first time (bf helps but he is at work during morning dose time this time). She was such a good girl! She usually fights me with everything, but she stood on her back legs on the counter and let me put the syringe in her mouth. Its almost like she knows I am helping her, she isn’t even struggling about being held and she ALWAYS hates being held.

Sneezes are already down to about 1-2 fits a day. She was playing today instead of just sleeping and laying around. She even jumped on top of Powder and spring boarded off his head with her back feet. Lol She loves to binky on top of him.. poor boy can’t get peace.

I have their window open now, well, cracked. No screen so can’t open it too much. During the day I am opening up the window in my room so she has more fresh air. Debating running their ceiling fan some, do you think that would help or hurt? It gets hair in the air more, but cools off the room / circulates the air.

Another thing I was thinking… could Powders fur be irritating her nose perhaps? He sheds badly all year round and she sleeps curled up with him. In the morning their sleeping area has a ring of white fur around it from him. :s Brushing him doesn’t help much, he seems to be able to lose more than should be on his body and never look like he has lost any. I know it makes my nose itchy when he gets in my face, could it be doing the same to her?

Just saw this thread Stickerbunny (sorry). Hope this does the trick for Sticker’s – I have been keeping up to date with her sneezing episodes. Good luck. And gee, I SO hope it’s not powder giving her the sneezes? I’d take him, but remember? my vinyl floors!!!!!!! Lol…..

PS – His moulting will blend in with Henry’s! (that’s all he does! BUGGA!), so Powder won’t be a problem if he can walk on my ‘lava’ floors?

Best his your oxbow pellets then Andi. If you take Powder.

Sticker, it’s interesting you’re already seeing some results.
Could her having been in different environment for the day helped?? Away from potential irritants??

Figuring out the “why’s” is so tricky sometimes.
I’ve got a sneezer too – Gooseman. I’ve been going through all the possible triggers also.
I actually hadnt considered room temperature for him! His sneezing really started since he’s been in with the girls. Before, his pen was in a different room in front if a window. He had a shelf directly under it. Mmmm….

If also wondered if their fur was irritating him.

Maple was my sneezer before (dry nose, just sneezing fits) and when she developed headtilt, her snoring and sneezing completely stopped. She’s just now starting to snore again. I now really suspect she has something going on in her sinus that moved up and affected her neurologically.

                                    Sorry. Going off on tangents.

Debating running their ceiling fan some, do you think that would help or hurt? It gets hair in the air more, but cools off the room / circulates the air.

                                    I don’t know!! Lol

I’m thinking it can’t hurt…but if keep seeing imprivement, how will you determine what’s actually helping? The abx it the cooler temps? Or both!

Maybe wait until she’s finished the course then try the fan if she hasn’t hasnt come good?? I’m indecisive & of little help on this. Lol.

The fan blowing bunny fur????? In the morning I am gonna take a picture of MY fan (and if hubby has time to upload it to the computer) I will post it for you to see how tragic our living environment has become!!!!!! Bunny fluff EVERYWHERE! I still use my bunny fluff overloaded fan cause it wouldn’t make a difference in our house, ha ha ha ha…… (why am I laughing????), lol!

Haha AndHenry – we have bunny fluff everywhere too! It coats my computer fan every day and I have to wipe it off to keep my PC from over heating. *sigh* All pure white too, from Powder. Gotta wonder how they can not go bald at times… you can’t have him though, he’s my cuddle bed bun

jersey – Hm. Well, it snowed last night (IN MARCH AAHHHH) so it’s certainly lower temps for her. I don’t know if that’s helping, or if it’s just the antibiotics. Both URIs came during cold months, I guess the heat is probably at the least making it worse. Curious that your buns head tilt stopped the sneezing. Stickers makes snorty pig noises a lot and is sneezy, not sure if the snorting all the time is due to sinus issues or just how she is. I wish they could just talk to us.

Update: She is no longer sneezing at all and is back to her normal, bratty self. Including … fighting me about the medicine. Last night my neck got scratched to pieces as she tried to snake her way up my chest to jump off of me. And catching her is difficult cause she keeps running from me. She’s all like “OMG I feel fine now mom! I don’t need any more medicine!”
