My Holland lop, Molly seemed to have some breathing issues, but checked out fine at the vet, but he still had given us some antibiotics and vitamins to be safe. I need to give her a does of antibiotics every 12 hours, and the vitamins once a day.

I’ve tried injecting the meds into a carrot (it worked last night) but not this morning, I’ve mixed it with apple sauce, and that didn’t work either. Then the worst was actually giving it to her through the syringe. We  have it done now, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with easier ways to give her these without making it difficult for both of us!

        Thank you!

Does she eat the applesauce plain? If so, maybe try a higher sauce-to-meds ratio. I have also found that sprinkling some (plain) rolled oats on top will get my Nessie to eat it. If you have a paste/gel type medicine, try it on a crunchy treat. For Nessie, the oats are what does it.
Maybe try injecting it into an apple slice or mushing it up with some banana

I think LNM has some great ideas there! I’ll have to remember those.

I’m always worried I’d waste the meds so I give it straight, but maybe I’m a bully. I pin the rabbit on the floor, back them up between my legs, grab around the top of the head, practically stand on MY head so I can see where the mouth is, and slide the syringe in. But now that I have one on indefinite meds, maybe I’ll try some of the nicer tactics. 🙂

This is how I do it! One of mine just licked the meds out of the syringe after his neuter, but when they’ve had stasis issues they weren’t interested in eating anything so I just had to stick the syringe in their mouth and make them take it.

Mixing meds with a very small amount of banana baby food worked well for us.

I prefer they get the full amount of medication, so I just syringe it. The vet mixes it with pineapple flavoring so it’s not too awful for them. I have to dose Stickers without help this time, so I have been wrapping her in a towel by the kitchen sink so she can’t pull her head away, standing her on her hind legs with her body propped against my chest and getting the syringe in her mouth that way.

Haha, I have the same concern about them eating it all. Whenever I try to syringe it I get it all over their face, my hands, the floor, the towel they are wrapped in… Nessie is very strong willed . I can syringe it when she’s really sick or when she was still groggy from the spay but if she’s well enough to run away, I’m far better off tricking her into eating it herself

Lol oh goodness. I tried every way and the best is to just mix it with applesauce and use the syringe. I fight Lulu regardless of what I do and it take me to hold her and inject it and someone else to hold her head steady. Once her head gets free out of the towel I wrap her in then she will quickly wiggle out. Then there would be applesauce all over me and her. Haha, good luck! It certainly can be a challenge
