I own a black Netherland dwarf rabbit. She’s very gentle and calm, but i’m scared she’s acting far too calm. Bonbon(her name) often sits on my windowsill for long periods of time. I can’t take her outside due to the fact that I’m often(every month or so) switching between my parents houses. I bring her with me since one house harbors a cat that I’m not too found of with their obsessive behavior to attack Bonbon, and the other with two medium sized dogs that wouldn’t hurt her at all but would give her a good scare. I don’t lock her up in a cage at all, but she is confined to my room. This does not mean I don’t own a cage for her, I keep her food and water in their. These are the details of her living situation that I hope might be helpful. Back to the point, Bonbon is very calm, almost way too calm. She likes to just lay around and sit still and be pet. I’ve tried multiple methods of playing with her, but she either gets annoyed and hides from me for a little while or confused and just leaves to lay down. She does like to go under my bed covers and hop around in there, but if I am in bed she will nudge at me and do a motion like she’s nipping but doesn’t(if that makes sense). I’m just worried that I’m being a horrible mother to her with not playing with her or are some rabbits just extremely calm? Also how can I play with her that might make her a little happier? Before my mom got that annoying cat, Bonbon would run laps all around until she tired herself out but she stopped once the cat came into the picture.

I’m sorry this is so long, I tried to provide as much information as I could that might be helpful.

Actually she sounds like a perfectly normal rabbit to me :~) Some rabbits are just more mellow than others.

She sounds good to me I wouldn’t worry too much about her. She just sounds like she has calmed down which is normal! And let me say how adorable BonBon is in her pink bow!!!

How old is she? Is that her in your avatar? If yes, what a cutie pie with that little bow!

Thank you guys for all your help. I was worried because most rabbits, or the ones I’ve seen, are very playful and social. I figured she was unhappy with her situation, it’s good to hear that she’s fine!

And yes, that is her as my avatar, she’s 2 years old now!

Porky is super mellow. It’s a big part of the reason we decided not to neuter him.

my bunny (pepper) is EXTREMELY calm and when I read this it was basically everything that pepper does. I have only had her for 3 days and she is only 2 weeks old but she seems SO familiar with me. She also does the nibbling thing where as our other bunny bites hard.

                      Hi BunBun

Welcome to the forum. 🙂 This is an old thread so I will lock it from further replies after I respond to you. We did want to clarify the age of your new rabbit! Is it 2 weeks or 2 months? At 2 weeks old, it should still be in the nestbox, so it is worrisome if it is that young. If you would like to start a new topic in the Behavior section, just click HERE.
