So my 3 year old bunny Loki has decided out of no where to start going potty where ever he feels like. He use to be very good about using his litter box but now out of no where has seem to forget what it even is. Nothing has changed with the litter i use in it or the way I clean it so i just don’t understand what his issue is. Nothing has changed with his environment or the activity at my house also. I’ve tried moving his litter box to several different areas he’s pottyed in and every time he just goes to a different corner. I’ve tried everything from moving his box, to putting hay in it, to coaxing him into his box when I’ve caught him and rewarding him after. But everything is just not working. I’m at my wits end, my parents said if i don’t fix his issue that i’ll have to get rid of him because he’s making a mess of my room n ruining my floors (there hardwood and he has a carpeted area that is in his pen) and i love my bunz way to much to ever let him go.

(there is a small rug under his cage also now that covers to the floor up to the black rug and several of his toys have been changed around and there is also a blanket that now covers his cage to give him a personal space in his cage like a hutch box)

Aw. What a nice set-up. I don’t know what to tell you about this behavior since it’s both. One or the other can narrow things down but that’s bizarre that he would be doing both, so I’ll wait for someone to come up with a brainstorm for you. Almost sounds like he’s afraid of the box for some reason, but idk. However, in the meantime do you have plastic under the carpet to protect the floors? Breaks my heart to hear someone even hint at taking away a child’s pet, so I hope you are working hard to protect those floors! Rabbit urine is pretty hard on wood floors.

Lulu went through a stage like this. Our house is all carpeted so what I did, I had to put down an ‘outdoor/indoor’ runner like carpet. Like the carpet that is place in doorways of stores and such. I did this after I had the area cleaned by my cousin, who cleans carpets as a part time job. I also have plastic that I was going to put under that carpet, but haven’t needed to because she immediately started going back into her box. I also put her hay back into the litter box to encourage her to use it again.
              I hope something helps!!

So after much thought and frustration a very simple solution came about. I bought him a new litter box and his behavior did a complete 180.
