I just got this little guy on Sunday!

he’s two years old and neutered, sweet little bug.  Loves being held and pet, got him from a rescue.  Nessie came along and they had a quick date in the foster home.  Nessie didn’t mind him, there was some humping from him but she didn’t seem to care much so we got to bring him home.  They told me he was a Holland Lop but I’ve had a Holland Lop with papers before and she was not much like him.  His hare is too long and his face isn’t quite the same shape.  He’s very soft, almost Fuzzy Lop kinda fur and jet black except for his white nose.  His eyes are part blue and part brown, very neat. He’s a tiny little guy too.

        Bonding thread will come soon!

He had unrestricted pellets in his foster home so he’s not eaten much hay.  They gave me a ziploc of his food so I can blend over to Oxbow.  I’m not sure how fast I should decrease his pellets so this morning I gave him 1/4 c of pellets and I’ll see how much he’s eaten tonight.  If there’s nothing left I’ll give him another 1/4 c and see how he does.  He has plenty of hay of course but doesn’t seem too interested.  I think he likes my hay (timothy) better than whatever they had at the rescue (something yellow, more straw-like).

The foster home has litter boxes with newspaper on the bottom, then hay on top of that.  Nessie has eco-straw pelleted litter with a BB screen, sometimes with hay on top but she doesn’t seem to care.  I’m hoping to transition him over to the pelleted litter somehow because I don’t get a newspaper and I’ll get a screen if he starts digging.

I have some concerns about his poops too, his regular poops are teeny tiny, like closer to the size of rabbit pellets.  I know he is smaller than Nessie but hers are the size of large peas and she’s not /that/ much bigger.  Also he seems to not be eating his cecals.  The foster guy said he just doesn’t do it at night so I’ll keep an eye on it.  I got him home and he had some cecals stuck in his fur around his butt so I gave him a trim down there and a foot-and-butt-bath to clean him up.  He’s dropped a bunch of poops around the house but I can’t tell if he has bad litter habits or if he is trying to mark because Nessie’s smell is everywhere.

I’ll try and get y’all some better pictures but he’s hard to photograph since he’s all black except his nose.

What a cutie pie! Congrats on your new addition!

It’s possible he’s having some weird poops due to stress. For bunnies, a new home can be a very stressful situation. I suggest just keeping a close eye on him and you will learn what is normal for him.

He’s absolutely adorable. Lily has blue patches in her eyes too, and I love the way it looks, so cool.

He seems to be eating his cecals more reliably, at the very least he hasn’t had any stuck to his butt and last night when he had some running around time I did see him eating some.

He doesn’t eat much, maybe because he’s so tiny? Nessie goes crazy when there’s pellets or greens or treats, Ollie will eat it if you put it in front of him but doesn’t seem too excited. I gave him a piece of dried banana (Nessie’s favorite) and he took it gingerly after suspicious sniffing. I’m hoping he’s just shy because he’s new. He does love to cuddle though, I’ll put him in my lap and he’ll snuggle for a whole tv show. Awwww

And his little white nose! I get up in the morning and check on him and it’s dark out so all I see is a little white spot wiggling up and down.

He’s so calm and inactive compared to Nessie that I worry about him being able to adjust. Last night though he did a really funny binky. Nessie’s are usually when she’s running around like crazy, though she doesn’t do them a whole lot anymore. Ollie was sniffing around his litter box filled with hay and all of a sudden shot straight up in the air and turned around. My boyfriend and I almost died laughing, it’s the most excited we’ve seen him.

Ellekke – Lots of human exposure and cuddles as babies helps them be friendly as adults too. Even if they’re in the cage if people are walking by a lot it seems to help. Of course everybun is different and sometimes they grow up to be ornery and there’s nothing you can do. Other times a mean bun can be tamed with love and patience. Most bunnies love petting though but they usually hate being picked up. Nessie will not tolerate being picked up but Ollie doesn’t mind a bit.

Aw it sounds like he is doing great with adjusting. Just taking it slow and sweet I can’t wait to see the bonding begin!

Awe he’s so cute! He’s a Vienna marked bun. I think that’s what they consider them. He’s probably a lop mix. But whatever he is, he’s precious!

Thanks NBO! I was actually wondering if there was a word for his coloring!
And thanks BunnyLady for the reassurance. I hope he comes out of his shell a bit more but I hope he stays cuddly too. I spent some time lying on the floor with him last night and he seems to be getting a tad more explorative.

Pooping everywhere despite supposedly being litter trained but my guess is that he’s just marking his territory for now.

Yeah Vienna marked buns usually have a splash of white on their nose or feet, ears and such. And they carry the blue eyed genes. So that’s probably why he has that pretty blue marbled like coloring in his eyes. He’s beautiful.

He sounds like a real sweetie! Jelly used to sit in my lap for ages too. It’s the best!

Hope he and Nessie become great friends.
Does he have longer fur on his cheeks and chest? It looks that way in the photo.

What you are doing diet wise sounds great. I think you’ll see a real change in his poop if he takes to eating hay. The reduced pellets/increased hay should help clear up the excess cecals also.
That said, he just might have little poos always. My friend has 2 rabbits (brother & sister) that are like this even though same size as some of her other rabbits. Theyre perfectly round, good colour light “hay” poos – just mini !

Ollie was sniffing around his litter box filled with hay and all of a sudden shot straight up in the air and turned around. My boyfriend and I almost died laughing, it’s the most excited we’ve seen him.

haha. TimTim binkys like that, doing a 180 in the air. eg. He’ll be facing north and lands facing south.
This reminds me about some older posts from a member who was frequent here in the past. Her new bunny only binkied in his litter box. She called them stinky-binks. Lol
It turned out that’s where he had most traction as the rest if the condo was vinyl. Once she moved them into another habitat, he broadened out to binkying everywhere.
