Hello, today I purchased Vita Prima Rabbit Formula for Young Pet Rabbits. Now-I’m not sure about this one.

Unfortunately-I have been feeding Alfie Oxbow Essentials but I ran out and I needed to get food. The store of course didn’t have the brand. I hate to switch so suddenly but I had to get something. The store recommended the Vita Prima pellets and said she feeds their rabbits it.

        Here is the nutrition analysis:

        Crude Protein Min. – 17.5%

        Crude fat min. – 2.5%

        Crude fiber max.- 22%

        Moisture max. – 12%

        Calcium Min- 0.5 ; Calcium max- 1%

        A couple questions-

Does this pellet provide what a bunny needs?

How bad is it that I switched so suddenly?

Should I feed him this from now on-or feed him this temporarily until I get Oxbow?

        Thanks. I’m a bit worried.

          Here’s what pellets should contain.

          Fiber 18% minimum (20 -25% best)
          Fat 1 – 2% max
Protein 12 – 14% max (long-haired breeds may need higher)
          Calcium 1% max

As you can see, the ones you have at the moment are too high in protein and fat. Also, you’ve put the max. fiber, what’s the minimum?
It’s not good to switch suddenly, but as long as he has lots of hay he’ll probably be alright.

But seeing as this is only because you’re out of your usual pellet I wouldn’t worry. How soon can you get more oxbow?
Don’t worry too much, but get more of your usual food when you can, and stick with that.

The protein seems rather high and perhaps the fiber is a bit low.
In order to tell if it is nutritionally sound, could you post the ingredients?
Switching suddenly is not good, but as long as you see no tummy troubles, he should be fine.
I would switch back to oxbow as soon as possible.

I’m ordering Oxbow from the Binky store right now. Maybe 3-5 days? I don’t know how fast it will come in.

Just feed those until you get Oxbow back and, give unlimited hay. That stuff is too high protein and a bit low on fiber but, hay will make up for that.

Like said, this is fine temporarily but it isn’t ideal…

I just put this in another thread but I’ll add it here too. Try to always have an unopened bag on hand. Once that last bag is opened, order another one or two and put them away. This way you won’t have to worry about running out.
