When we brought Lola home she was eating her hay just fine. She was eating a rabbit food with alot of extra stuff in it like corn and stuff and I read that wasn’t so good for her so I started switching her to an all pellet variety. She only gets a very tiny amount of the new stuff so far but since I started giving it to her she has all but stopped eating her hay. Since the pellets are made of the timothy hay should I be worried? She does eat a little bit of the loose stuff that I put in her litter box just not out of her bowl or hay rack.

She may simply prefer the hay not be in a tight container. Most of mine eat more hay if I just put a pile of it on the floor for them. They like to root through it to find the choice pieces first. It’s a little messy but, they eat more that way.

Also how much pellets are you giving her and, how much does she weigh? Reducing the total amount of pellets will probably get her eating more hay. If it doesn’t, have her teeth checked, sometimes not eating hay can be because of a molar spur that is painful when the rabbit chews so, they avoid hay which requires a lot of chewing.

She gets a total of 1/4 cup of pellets per day and she is just a smidge over 4 lbs.

I;d cut the pellets by 2 TBS, 1/4 cup is on the high end for a rabbit that size so she probably has slowed down in growing and doesn’t need as much food now. If she eats some more hay, you can even reduce the pellets more, down to as little as 1/8 cup as long as she eats hay and greens to make up for it but, start by taking just 2 TBS away from her ration ans see what she does.

She does eat greens. She REALLY likes her greens. Should I be measuring those too? I am not sure how much of that I should be giving her.

I ordered her some different hay this time to see if that helps any and I tried just putting it out for her instead of in the bowl or hay rack. (I put some in there too just i case) It seems like she ate more than normal but still not a lot. I have reduced her pellets too like you said so will see what happens there.

Yes, she should be getting about 2 cups of greens a day. She does eat hay so, my guess is that she eats all she needs and, will eat more with less pellets.

I wasn’t really measuring her veggies. I am pretty sure she is getting at least 2 cups per day though. Her crock is bigger than my cavalier’s bowl. I will measure to make sure she isn’t getting too many veggies from now on.

                    Thank you!
