I have ordered hay from Small Pet Select before but it was regular timothy hay. One rabbit liked it but my other wouldn’t touch it. I was at my state rabbit rescue site a week or so ago and wanted to donate and I seen a coupon from Small Pet Select saying a part of my purchase would go to the rescue and I would get a free ring. I went to their site and thought I would give the hay a try again. I noticed they had 3rd cute hay. I decided to get that. My rabbits LOVE the stuff. Usagi the rabbit who hated the other kind gets in the box every time I get it out and eats straight from it. Is it ok for them to eat only that because its really soft? I also have noticed their poos are darker than before. They are acting fine I was just wondering if this was ok? Perhaps their poos are darker because the hay is really really green. Its the nicest looking hay I have ever seen. I would like to continue ordering it if they have it in stock. They wont eat the other hay I had left from before.

That’s fine, third cut just means it was from the third time that field was mowed for hay that year. I’m sure the rabbits enjoy it because it is finer stemmed and easier for them to eat. It still provided the fiber they need and, if they like it, there is no problem feeding it to them.

I prefer first and third cut for my rabbits. here those two cuttings are usually finer stemmed and, greener that the mid summer second cutting hay and, the rabbits eat them better.

Yes, definitely okay – my rabbits love the 3rd cut as well.
