My English lop is BIG so a regular litter box won’t do. I use a large 15×20 storage thing..

I started using a screen because she kicks all the pellets out. I made a screen from hardware cloth and now she refuses to use her litterbox that stubborn lil bun bun! Should I just keep trying to get her to go with the screen? or should I just take out the screen?

I kind of liked the screen because it keeps her feet and long ears <3  less dirty and wet from pee!

I could switch to a large wall storage thing and cut an entrance…

Sooooo should I just keep trying to get her to go with the screen? or should I just take out the screen?

        any suggestions? thanks!!

Those kinds of screens are priceless! You could try sprinkling a handful or two of hay over the it; this way she has something to nibble on while she does her business (which buns love) to encourage her to use the litter box, and if it’s the feeling of the screen that’s irritating her, the hay will feel more familiar.

She actually hates hay in her litter box and pushes it all out! ohhhhh myyyy.
should I just keep trying with the screen and putting her poops in? or take it out?

if there is no screen she uses her litter box for pee and poop. With the screen only pee (right now)

I think I’ll try with the screen for a week and see if she learns to like it

Can you put hay over the screen? She probably won’t even know it’s there, but won’t be able to dig/kick out the litter under it.

Elrohwen, your bun pic is SO CUTE!! ah

She hates hay on her litter. If I put hay she pushes it off the side. Basically, unless she can DIG, push and play in her litter she doesn’t like to poop in her litter.
How long should I stick with the screen before I ditch it? a couple weeks?

Is she just going on the floor then if she won’t use the box? I wouldn’t let her get in the habit of going on the floor, so if that’s the case I would pull out the screen and maybe try again later.

I love English lops! You don’t see a lot of them around. Lops in general are my favorite 🙂 The little baby guy in my avatar is 5 years old now *sniffle*

Ok, ya maybe I should just ditch it. I’m going to have to get an extra deep storage rubbermaid and cut an entrance.
lol the only problem with that… her feet are SOOOOO stinky!! I guess I do still have to let her be a bunny!
I just love cuddling with her and when her smelly feet get next to my face its intense! <3

With the screen on the litter:
she goes pee 100% of the time
                    her poop is about 50%

                    without the screen:
poop is 90% of the time
                    pee is 100%
