I saw on the BB store that they have two kinds of oat hay (mini bales) and it says that the young (green) oat hay is for abbits over one year old with the gold (mature) oat hay I guess being for all ages.  They also have Oxbow oat hay but it doesn’t specify young or mature.  Other hay suppliers don’t specify either.  The place I normally get hay from sells oat hay and it’s a combination of green and some gold.  If the seller doesn’t specify young or mature, can I feed it to my 7 and 9 month old bunnies along with their 2nd cut timothy and orchared grass hays?

Yes, mixed oat hay is fine for rabbits that age, especially when it’s fed with grass hay as well.

When the oat hay says “young” and “mature” that is the growing time of the hay, not the age of the rabbit it can be fed to. Oat hay is fine for all bunnies.

The BB store hay description said that “young” oat hay (green) seed heads hard for bunnies under one year to digest and that the “mature” oat hay (more yellow/gold) had softer seedheads that were easier for the younger buns to digest.  My bunnies are 7 and 9 months old but turn their noses up at anything yellow (they do like the green oat hay sample I got from one of the online vendors).  I don’t know how to tell if they have a hard time digesting this hay.  How would I tell?

Add to my oat hay question — my 7 month old buns are Holland Lops (2.5 and 3.5 lbs) and my 9 mo old is a dwarf rex (@ 3 lbs).  They eat timothy pellets, 2nd cut timothy hay mixed with orchard grass hay, and have “sampled” the green oat hay.  All three shed like crazy.
