Ok guys so if any of you have been reading my posts you would know that today I was driving quite far away, to go get my between 12-14 week old holland lop. We left really early this morning so that we would have time to drive around the town and explore/shop before picking her up. So we did things such as go to petsmart, target, wallmart a mall there ect…and then I saw an Exotic pet Store!!!! I love reptiles so I asked my fianc’e if we could go (and he said yes of course) so we went in and I was amazed, there were alligators, porcupines, capy buras, rats, mice, snakes, lizards, monkeys, turtles, hamsters, sugar gliders, skunks, chinchillas, and then….I saw…bunny’s…..about 30 of them….all 8 weeks to 4 years of age….I was in heaven. Then I walked over to a giant round floor bin, it practically took up half the store! In that bin there were about 4 hairless guinea pigs, about 2 regular guinea pigs, 3 or so dutch bunny’s and 5 or so baby Holland Lops. Everything in the bin were all female. The store was very clean and organized…but there were too many animals in it for the space they had (as many exotic pet stores go) keep in mind I was supposed to go get my lop later in the day. But as I was looking at the girl lops I noticed one broken tort, mostly white with brown ears and brown patches around her eyes and a dark brown nose sitting quietly in the corner while all the other babies jumped on top of her spazing out, paying her no attention. I asked the owner if she was on hold as they had a long list attached to a board of the bunny’s who have already been paid for. And no…she wasn’t on hold. I know what your thinking “I hope she didn’t adopt from there” BUT I DID We asked a bunch of questions to find out if she was healthy, where she came from , why and how they got her all that jazz. Answers- She just turned 8 weeks, they got her from a breeder (where I was getting mine from anyways) the breeder actually adopted her mom from this store a couple years ago and ended up with an accidental litter so she took them there to be adopted out. She’s in perfect health (I looked her over myself, I’m in veterinary medicine so I knew what to look for physically) she was in perfect health. So I called the breeder and was honest, I told her where I was and what I was thinking and she even told me I should take her from the store to give her a good life and that she actually had a guess who her breeder had been, and that she was good and that she would give the bunny (I was going to take from her) to someone else. That meant a lot to me knowing she wasn’t mad and that we both wanted to get her out of that store. So I asked the owner if she is for sure female, and signed some paper’s and left with her Her name is Bella, she so far loves being picked up and held, eats like a hog and loooooooves toilet paper rolls and has began tearing up a phone book. Im in love with her. Thanks for reading, pictures to come soon.

Bella! What a nice name! Of course I might be slightly biased. (My first bunny was named Bella, bless her)

hey guys! I’m working on pictures, I’ll probably post them tomorrow! And tonight was so funny, I put my hamster in his ball and let him run around….and Bella was fascinated by him! She put her ears straight up, came to the front of her pen and followed him with her head, I let her out and she then walked behind him! I mean she followed him right behind wherever he rolled hahaha it was like a dog following someone with food I’ve never seen a bunny act like that before. About 7 minutes after that I put her back in her pen, turned around and he had gotten out of his ball!!! AHHHH! and I found him in my shoe….silly dude and as I’m typing this I turn around and she’s stuck in between two rubber maid bins of her food….mom came to the rescue! She’s very motivated by food lol I’m looking for a good treat she can have multiple times a day to trains her…any thoughts? She likes yogurt drops so far…but shouldn’t eat too many so that’s lame! Thanks guys!!

                        •  are there any bunny toys you guys have found that move? she seems to like things that move and make noise
                        •  can rabbits see colors?
                        • and when (age wise) should I begin clipping her nails

I read somewhere they see blues and greens… even though I try to make it pretty and colorful in Bumpy’s “room”, I’ve made a point to pick things blue and green since I read that. lol

As for training treats… if she really enjoys her pellets, you can set aside a portion of her daily amount and make her work for them.

Bumpy likes his plastic baby keys, stackable cups, and his crinkly cat tunnel tube. He LOVES throwing them around… yes.. even the 3ft long tube… He also has a bright blue and green plastic cat ball about the size of a baseball with a bell inside that he likes to roll around. I’m not sure if he actually LIKES playing with that ball, or if he’s testing it to see if it’s the cat treat ball that I use to feed him his pellets.

Anything that resembles a tunnel seems to be the toy that keeps my rabbit’s attention the longest. This would be like the cat tunnels, and I can’t remember who posted this one, but there was a fabric cube someone found at K-Mart with holes in the side made for cats. I found one of those at my Walmart for $3. They said it was the best money you would spend and they were not lying My rabbits do their Zoomies around the house and now they barrel through that thing like little rocket propelled fur balls. I had to go get a second one for Ashe, it was such a hit. As for treats, mine go crazy for bananas, but I cut one slice into several little pieces to train the buns. Right now, I’ve taken a break from teaching tricks and I’m working on getting Moogle used to spending time on the couch again (I used to shoe him off because he peed on it before he was neutered, so he’s afraid he will get in trouble).

As for clipping nails. I think I heard someone say a long time ago that you should clip nails when they become visible beneath the fur. Not totally sure if this is accurate, but that’s what I do. I would also just clip the very tips earlier than that, just to get her used to it before she becomes bigger and less manageable.
