Wanted to see if anyone knew or seen anything like this in a rabbits eye. I have been to vet one vet says looks like an injury and gave me an antibiotic ointment doesn’t seem to be helping. Another vet says it looks like a condition that rabbits get in the eye from eating high fatty foods and high cholesterol. I have just recently changed her diet to see if that helps. It has also been watery in the corner but clear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Was there supposed to be a picture? I’m sorry, I’m not really sure what you mean.

Oh goodness! Has the eye only just become like this?

It looks like the lens has ruptured perhaps.

There are a number if things that can affect the eye. Are you confident in your vets experience with rabbits?

There’s not any vets where I live that have experience with rabbits. They have treated her previously though and did a great job. Just trying to figure out if anyone else has seen anything like this. They said that when they put the light to her eye it responds to the light and they could see her retina. Lot of people are telling me it looks like she was poked in the eye with something.

What were you feeding her before?

I forgot the name but it was the one with pellet food and the different color food. I believe it was called dumor. Now I am feeding her a timothy pellet food. I was feeding her that because she was really chowing down on it. But she seems to be settling into this food really well too.

                        Is the eye normally brown?

Maybe report in or revisit with the vet that prescribed the antibiotic.
There is a test they can do to check for injury where they put a yellow dye on the eye ball.

A couple things common in rabbits are glaucoma, abscess (behind eye usually related to the molar roots), parasite Encephalitozoonosis Cuniculi (E.C.). I’m not sure but I think pasteurella can affect the eye too.

                          Poor bun! 🙁

If it was suddenly, it does sound like she may have been poked in the eye. I’ve heard of that happening with hay.

How long has she been on the antibiotic ointment?

Yes, I was thinking hay as well, or a chewed piece of willow. I’ve seen my bunny stick her face into a pile of hay and I wonder why she never stabs her own eye.

If the vision portion is working normally, then I would give the treatment and diet change a chance for a week or so to see if there is improvement. If you want to check for more vets, try this post to guide you to a new search. Otherwise, with 2 prescribing vets, it may just need time to heal.

Her eye is normally brown. I may have my vet do some blood work. They hay is sharp I have poked my finger pulling it out of the bag. She has been on the antibiotic for about a month now. The antibiotic I have is neomycin

The vet called me today and her blood word came back positive for Uveiti and that it’s old, nothing she just recently got. The EDTA ointment seems to have broken it up slightly over a whole month. Her vision does seems to have improved. But from what I read isn’t Uveitis a inflammation of the eye.  I would have thought the blood work would have come back positive for the causing bacteria not just Uveitis. Wondering, if she should be on an antibiotic also. Anyone have experience with Uveitis and what was prescribed and results?

Oh dear, has she been given pain meds at all? Is she in pain?

That’s my understanding also – its inflammation of the uvea. That can be caused by an infectious agent (bacteria, parasite…) or injury. I’m uncertain if other conditions (like glaucoma) does or doesn’t do this. I’m thinking that’s possible too…
Did you speak with the vet or another staff member?

I spoke with the Dr. The only thing she is on is the EDTA ointment which seems to have cleared her a vision slightly. Just wondering what would be best to try and put her on with the EDTA.

She doesn’t seem to be in pain. It waters from time to time. I know that the EDTA has improved her vision because she runs around alot more now than when we first visited the eye Dr.
