I used to give my bunny a lot of pellets but heard it was bad for him. Recently, he hasn’t been intersted in his hay. Now, all he really eats is veggies. What do I do? His poop has become a lot less! Scared.

his poop is normally shaped but is has decreased noticably now with much less pellets and barely any hay. How do I encourage him to eat his hay?

            Hi There,
Are you giving him any pellets? I wouldn’t stop them completely, especially given the fact that I’m dealing with a rabbit losing weight because of a diet change for medical reasons and it’s pretty unnerving to feel their bony hips. It’s a fine line you walk, but if the rabbit is doing well, don’t feel you have to cut out pellets completely. A lot of us give a variety of hay. Do you have different kinds? Not clover or alfalfa, but there are plenty of others. Small amounts at a time often interest them as opposed to a big wad once a day. I’ve heard of “hay toppers” but haven’t bought any. People say if you use tough love, they’ll eat their hay, but the question is if they will eat enough. Don’t starve him because you’re afraid to give pellets. Im n ot saying you are. It’s just that I’m extra-sensitive to this subject. And are you giving a little fruit each day?

Going by your other thread, his hay-eating problems are because of his teeth. Check that other thread.
