I recently finished ‘Watership Down’, and it was awesome. I think all the bunny lovers here would love it… it’s not like modern day fiction, but more of a classic kind of read. I thought I wouldn’t care for it because I would be thinking about how impossible everything is all the time, but I really liked it. The author, Richard Adams, has written the book to be realistic from the standpoint of the rabbit’s natural instincts so this made it very enjoyable. You guys should definitely read it if you have the chance (if you haven’t already, I don’t know if this is a popular read). It’s a pretty old book, it was published in 1972.

I had never heard of this book before, but it sounds really interesting! Thanks for sharing!

I just want to mention, it is often mistaken for a children’s book since it’s about rabbits. It is an adult novel.

Actually, I think the book itself is suitable for children. It’s the movie you have to watch out for. I just finished the book actually. Definitely written by a mid-century white English dude, but still a good read. I’m gonna have to hunt down the sequel now.

I’m gonna tentatively recommend the graphic novel We3, which is about a cat, a dog, and a rabbit that were made into bioweapons. This one is definitely not for kids. Its got a lot of gore and human and animal death, and honestly, I’m mostly reccing it for if you want something that will make you cry, but it is a good story.

                Hmm We3 sounds interesting.

                Watership Down has a sequel?

I have the DVD watership down.   Definitely an old movie.  I would probably like the book better too.

I just checked Netflix and they don’t have We3

Does Hulu carry movies or just tv shows?

Oh, Watership down is such a good book. I absolutely loved it! I didn’t know it had a movie version. Just checked on youtube and the trailer seems to capture the nature of the book pretty well. Now I’m curious to see it.

I saw the movie as a little girl when it first came out. That night every time I tried to close my eyes to go to sleep, I saw those bunnies drowning. It was so so sad.

Read the book a long time ago. I loved it. It was Richard Adams’ first book and probably his most well-known. I always found it funny how people have read too much into the story over the years, looking for hidden meanings. I don’t think it was meant to have a political message or anything like that.

We3 is actually a comic book. It first came out as a three-issue miniseries, but it’s also been compiled into one bigger one. Whichever’s easier to find I guess.

And yeah, there’s a sequel called Tales from Watership Down.  I think it’s a collection of short stories about the characters’ lives at their new warren.

I want to read it but I heard there were a lot of sad parts in it?

Watership Down? Hmm, I guess it depends on what you consider sad. I never thought of it as a real tear-jerker.
