My new bunny pancake seems to be drinking an excessive amount of water. I have only had him for one day. He seems to be eating normal. I didn’t know if it could possibly mean he is sick or something? Anybody know? My other rabbit doesn’t ever drink as much.

My Henry has his days….. Some days I barely hear the tink tink of his water bottle, but other’s – he drinks so much his bottle is a constant rattle. I’ve never been concerned personally cause I know my boy. Other BBer’s may think this could be concerning and offer their suggestions. Wishing you and Pancake all the best Ashlen. Cheers.

My bunnies drink variable amounts depending on how much and what type of salad they get.

            Does he seem otherwise well?

Excessive drinking is usually observed over time, one day is a very short time.

Measure the amount of water he drinks by refilling all bowls and bottles to a known volume, then make notes on how much he’s drunk in a few hours/ a day. A healthy bunny can drink 100 cc water per kilo body weight per 24 hours.

Some buns just drink water like crazy. Mulder and Scully drink LOTS of water. Tank drinks more in the winter than in the summer, but never as much as they do. I had another rabbit, a long time ago, that drank water LIKE. CRAZY. He was a little lionehad and I swear he just drank crazy amounts of water lol.

Of course with excessive drinking, one’s mind goes straight to diabetes. His first day home though, I would think it’s more likely he just gets fewer greens than your older bunny and needs more water to compensate.

If the excessive drinking continues, just have the vet test his blood sugar.

Thanks guys I just worry cuz he’s new. He is sneezing w little but I don’t that can be from stress as well. Didn’t know if the water would be a stress thing. I think I will try to have a vet evaluate him since I would like to get him in for surgury soon.

That would be great, it’s always the best thing to with a new bunny, to have a vet examine the little newcomer. Make sure to mention the snezing, it just may be sth he’ll need antibiotics for. That’s important for your other bunny as well, so he/she doesn’t catch sth bad from Pancake.

Best of luck with your new friend!!
