Just looking to enrich my babies life a bit. Any ideas on things I could make or set up for her to play in and with? Something close to the ground; she’s not much of a jumper.

Aside from the typical cardboard houses, tp tubes stuffed with hay, I’ve begun looking at commercially sold toys and seeing if its something I can re-create.

I found one recently that will simple to make with very little materials, the commercial version is plastic, which I could probably re-create using pvc piping too, but I intend to use wood, in case Bumpy wants to chew on it too.

The bottles are your typical prescription bottles. I am going to use a scrap piece of wood as the base, with the two sides out of something wooden too. (I will probably just use what I have laying around the shed, a couple pieces of 2x2s screwed onto the base thru the bottom of the base)  If you are not handy with power tools, you may need to be creative in the actual material and whether it is too thick to punch thru with something sharp, like a utility knife. (Like using flat paint stirring sticks as the side, maybe glued with wood glue to the base)  Poke/drill a hole thru the side braces and thru the bottles.  Drill a couple small holes thru the tops of the bottle caps.  Then put in a few pellets/ fav treats inside the bottles.  The rabbit will have to stand and “dig at” the bottles, making them spin and dropping a few treats out.

Again, I saw the commercial version of this, and the bun seems to really like it.  I have access and know how to use power tools, so this will be easy for me to do.  Perhaps it is something you can do too.

That’s really interesting, manic! Nice picture, I would have been confused without it! Lol… Keep us posted on how that goes, maybe start a new thread when you make it?

xxmelaniedawn, look around your house for stuff! Like manic said, cardboard boxes and tp tubes are good. If your grocery store offers paper bags at checkout, take a couple home with you. You can stuff those with hay, or just leave them out for the bunny to go inside and chew. Small, clean plastic items can be used for tossing (I’ve used laundry detergent caps before, just make sure they’re scrubbed out very well!)

If you have a dollar store near you, check for untreated baskets or cat/bird toys. Dollar stores also sell those big dish tubs that you can use for a diggy box.

Scroll thru this section because people are always posting different toy ideas. Anything you give, you should supervise the bunny with it at first to make sure he doesn’t just chew it apart (especially important with plastic!)

I used prescription bottles as well. But I put a few unpopped kernels or rice in there to make noise (with the lid on). For some reason Ziggy likes to make a racket. Right now his fav toy is a plastic & metal hanger for pants/skirts. The metal makes lots of noise when he drops is on the floor.
