I am in no way complaining that Prince is marking our shoes and bags with the scent glands under his chin, because I much rather that than pee! LOL I was just wondering why. Is it just because he knows that the things in the house are his, because it is his home? Just curious!

The scent-marking tells other bunnies that a) Prince was there b) How long ago Prince was there.

Cats do the same thing, but their scent-glands are on their cheeks. It’s important because in densely populated areas, cats can time-share territories this way. It’s probably sth similar with (wild) rabbits. The behaviour has no real purpose in a one-bunny house-hold of course, it’s just an instinct.

I don’t know if other pets in the house-hold register the markings and/or if they do, if it means anything at all to them.

Yep, it just lets other bunnies know that it’s his territory. It’s basically the same thing cats do when they rub on stuff. My female does it all the time and will even mark your finger. I’ve seen my male do it a couple times, but I think he was copying my female’s actions since he never did it before or since, and it was right on something she had just marked.

I think the chinning is funny. Bunnies think they own everything. Everything in my living room belongs to Olivia!
