        Hey guys!

I had a few questions about makeup that I’d like others opinions on.

I currently just ware concealer and some EOS. Im in middle school. (not allowed to share ages on binkybun)

Today I got some colored BabyLips and some nail polishes that I paid for. I wanted to ask my mom if I could ware mascara, but I decided not to.

One of my older 8th grade friends said that she thinks mascara is a teenage makeup product and people at her school just were concealer and eyeliner. Most of my friends ware Mascara and concealer, and I have 3 friends I can think of that actually ware eyeliner. One wares sparkly eyeliner, the other wares a black eyeliner, and the last one owns brown eyeliner but I’ve never noticed her waring it at school. (We are allowed to ware makeup at our school.)

I want to ask my mom if I can ware some mascara or eyeliner. I mainly want to ware mascara, and get a sparkly eyeliner. I don’t want to look like a raccoon.

Lastly, I am in this play, and today I mentioned to my mom that i needed makeup for the play, so I already have a reason to get makeup but the play isn’t until march (we’ve been practicing already)

What do you think is appropriate for my situation (Not the play) and age?

I love makeup but I am much older than you. I think you should wait to wear make-up though when you are older. You really have to be vigilant about cleansing when you wear makeup. I don’t like the sparkly eyeliner on anyone – it’s not attractive. I know makeup is fun and I wanted to wear it when I was your age but honestly it did not make me look more mature or look better but makeup in the 1970’s and 1980’s was much different. . At your age, you should not need concealer. let your gorgeous young skin shine through.

Thank you for opinion. The reason I ware concealer is because I have acne like most girls my age.  Some people don’t understand that kids now a days go through “P” and get acne. I first got it around the time I was at the end of being 10 years old.

Funny, I was just watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off today. I couldn’t help but think about the conversation Jeannie (Jennifer Grey) has with the boy (Charlie Sheen) at the police station about makeup. LOL

Anyhoo! To be honest with you, I was never all that interested in makeup when I was in middle/high school. I wore some, but only because I felt pressured to do so by the other girls. I would wear concealer, powder, lip gloss, stuff like that. I never liked mascara or eye shadow. Believe me, there is definitely a such thing as too much makeup. You have to be careful with mascara and eyeliner. I knew a girl who would put on WAY too much and it just didn’t look good.

Since you are in middle school, I would recommend keeping your makeup neutral. A natural-looking face is always more flattering. So if you do decide to use mascara, use it sparingly and make sure it goes with your hair color/complexion.

Thanks! I do see what you mean by saying to make sure it goes with your hair and such, because there is a girl i know who has bleach blonde hair and eyelashes. When she started waring mascara it was like BOOM. It didn’t look good AT ALL.

I have a average complexion and dirty blonde/light brown hair. my lashes are brown.

I think when used correctly make up is very pretty. But people think make up being worn correctly in different views as I. I think people look so pretty when their makeup looks neutral/natural. Like you know they have make up on but it doesn’t look like they have make up on. It’s weird but I get jealous about it lol I’ve never really worn make up in middle and high school. And I still rarely wear make up now at 23 haha but I do in occasion when we go out to a social even but it’s never much. Probably lightly and I mean very lightly put mascara and eye liner on. If I have blemishes I fix that too but I just don’t like the smell of make up and when I wear any one my face I literally feel like my skin can’t breathe. My wedding was terrible because you of course go all out to look stunning but when my make up lady was first applying it I was like ahhhh my face can’t breathe! Lol But I got used to it towards the end of the night.

But yes don’t forget to wash your face every night when wearing make up or it will clog your pores and cause break outs.

LOL – okay, teenagers have ALWAYS gone through puberty and had acne..not just teenagers today. I do understand you being self- conscious about that. I guess concealer as long as it’s just to conceal and makes you feel more confident is okay.

I do very clearly under stand that you must clean your face and I always do clean it around 8pm every night, several hours before bed. I also understand not to over do it, once again I don’t want to look like a raccoon.

I never wore makeup in middle/high school. I wore it rarely in college and I wear it less than once a week now, though that is changing. I’m 23 and a teacher. My students say I look like I’m 15-17. Some other teachers have commented on how wearing makeup may make me look older, and I had one teacher strongly advise it. I am trying to transition to high school but the people that do the hiring are wanting someone with more experience. I’m the only ” young” teacher that got an observation. Anyway, if it weren’t for this situation, I would opt out of wearing makeup. I like putting it on but I don’t like how it feels.

I don’t think i look younger than my age. I may look a year or 2 older but no more or less.

I used to wear none. When I started buzzing my hair I thought I should balance it a little, so I wear mascara when I go to work or if I think someone might take a picture of me.

People still call me “sir” all the time though QQ

People tend to make a big deal about young people wearing makeup, but the makeup itself is just a thing. If your mom says no, don’t worry about it.

By the way, the “natural makeup” thing is pretty much a myth…. That basically means don’t slather it on and stick to colors that could actually exist on skin. It’s definitely not natural or natural-looking, lol.

I remember being in middle school and sneaking to put it on (in the girl’s bathroom before classes started) because my mom was very much against me wearing any at that age. That all worked great until I forgot to remove it one day before leaving school. Ooops. After that, I didn’t begin wearing makeup until high school. I wore makeup until I was about 21, with 18-20 being my heaviest time due to my nightlife of clubbing 4 nights out of the week. Just before turning 21, I began to work at a veterinary hospital and makeup became nothing more than a chore, so I stopped wearing it daily and went with “if I were going somewhere special” routine.

Got married at 23 (about 2 weeks shy of 24), stopped wearing makeup at about 25. I’m 42 now. About a year or so ago, I thought to surprise my husband I’d put some on. Of course this meant I had to go buy new makeup, because it had been so long. I couldn’t BELIEVE how much just a few pieces cost me! I spent an hour preparing my face and applying makeup. I NEVER got it to look like I wanted it to, it just did NOT look good to me. I used to be really good at putting makeup on, my techniques were great, it just looked terrible. I’m pretty sure my makeup days are over, though I think maybe it’s because of the way I view beauty now.

As for girls (legally not-adults) using makeup… using concealer to smooth out blemishes to increase confidence is ok. I was fortunate not to have to cope with bad acne, only a few small spots once in awhile. However, there is a very fine line between concealing blemishes and highlighting your assets (like the eyes or lips). There is a very short time we are “girls”, and -I believe- that wearing makeup that results in girls appearing older, robs us of some of that time.

Dammit. I sound like my mother.

Oh, I wanted to comment on the makeup for your play thing. This is funny too because I was in a play when I was in middle school. So the “makeup artist” (middle school girl doing makeup) insisted that everyone’s makeup had to be the same. They made me up how they thought I needed to look. After all, you have to have on a lot of makeup so you show up on stage (or so they said). I literally looked like a clown! She put bright pink lipstick and tons and tons of pink blush on me. It was horrible. I can home and my brother about fainted when he saw me. I went to the store to buy some more flattering colors. They wouldn’t let me wear it though. They kept insisting everyone’s makeup had to be the same. o_O

Haha! Finally a thread I can be helpful in!
I’m pretty sure I’m the same age as you. At my school, the girls all wear mascara, some wear eyeliner and some also wear (LIGHT) eye shadow to make their eyes appear bigger.
This is, at least, in the group I’m in (of about 10 girls). There are different people that do different things in middle school… there’s the crowd that doesn’t shower, the crowd that doesn’t wear ANY makeup even with huge pimples everywhere (I don’t judge these people, we all have reasons for wearing/not wearing it), the crowd that misuses makeup and the crowd that can use it.
With makeup you can’t over-do it, or you don’t look real. If you have acne use a light foundation. Get a good mascara, I use a couple different types:
Maybelline- Rocket Express, Big Eyes, Cat Eyes
                                  Covergirl – Clump Chrusher
I personally don’t like baby lips, I think it wears fast and drys your lips. I use Yes To Carrots, it’s natural looking shade of red that I use lightly to bring some color to my lips. Love this stuff, but you have to pick *the right color for your skin/hair/eyes*. Can’t stress this enough… people can make themselves look bad easily with lip stick. Use natural colors
I don’t use eye liner… I’ve always been bad at using it because I have a bad twitchy reflex to things on my eye lids that makes it impossible to do eye liner well.
I don’t use eye shadow either. I’ve taken classes on eye makeup and know how to make my eyes look HUGE with it, but it takes too long to get right and I’m too lazy for that in the morning. So I do it for special occasions only.
Lastly, this you didn’t mention but:
Due to my olive skin tone, and natural tendency towards getting dark circles, I look like some scary deranged raccoon when I wake up in the morning. A japanese one.
So I have makeup products to battle this.
Before I fall asleep at night, I use YesTo cucombers under-eye gel. This makes it so I wake up with very minimal puffiness
In the morning, I use garnier fructis anti-puff roller and garnier fructis anti-dark circle remover. Works like a charm.
getting ready in the morning makeup wise takes me all of ten minutes. 45 minutes for everything (outfit, hair, makeup, teeth brushing and face cleaning)
I use Olay ‘Fresh Effects’ “Shine-Be-Gone”
Hope I helped… as for talking to your mom about it, just tell her it’s you naturally growing up and starting to experiment with makeup.

I do not wear a lot of make up, never really felt the need. I had regular acne as a teen but a nice complexion…I do have dark circles under my eyes (two kids!) so I put undereye concealer on. I also use eyeliner.. but, only to enhance the look of my eyes. I wear eye shadow when at work, that’s about it.
Mascara is really unnecessary for school/the age that you are. I think if you want to wear make up, try eye liner and maybe a highlighter on the brows and cheeks.

I have recently become quite passionate on buying only cruelty free products. I just looked up my favorite eye liner brand, which is sephora…and as of 2012 they started selling in China which means they test on animals now devastated.
I wear eyeliner because I barely have eyelashes, so it’s a necessity to me to feel comfortable. I guess I’ll need a new fave brand!

BunnyRabbitMania – If I were you, I’d ask your mum what you asked us! She knows you, your friends, and your school better than we do!

I probably started wearing makeup when I was 15 ish, but we weren’t allowed at school, so it had to be subtle, haha. If I were to suggest you wear any makeup I’d say use some concealer if you feel conscious of your skin, and maybe a bit of mascara. I think eyeliner is actually more dramatic than mascara, mascara is a bit more natural, just to open up your eyes a bit.

However, I would suggest you wait a bit longer before wearing makeup. It’s fun and all, but chances are that in a few years you’ll feel like you can’t leave the house unless you’re wearing makeup, so enjoy being young and not feeling that pressure!

I’m kinda the oddball that doesn’t wear makeup regularly in my circle, and I’m hitting 30 pretty soon. I used to wear it in highschool, though. Some light eye shadow or eyeliner, clear mascara and lipgloss. One thing I’ve learned is to highlight either the eyes or the lips, don’t go for both

The only time I actually wear make up now is on special occasions, if I’m doing an important presentation (like a seminar or workshop) and when I’m on stage.

I’ve also looked at make up brands that are cruelty free and don’t test any of their products on animals. I ended up choosing Body Shop and I’m quite happy with it.

                                          Hi!
At your age I didn’t wear makeup, as i was VERY blessed to have never had acne in my life, I am at university now and still only have the occasional spot maybe once every two months, if that! So I didn’t need to wear concealer or anything, but I do wear mascara daily and the occasional concealed under my eyes as I work long shifts in a hospital that is a 2 hour commute away from me, so I look a little tired sometimes
Enjoy being young and not feeling like you have to wear makeup, everyone is naturally beautiful
