I know we haven’t been around much for a while, but I thought that I’d just report that we lost Kaylee today.

She was fine last night, no symptoms at all except for being a little less energetic than usual.  Not considerably, just a bit.  She ate all her pellets and veggies last night with no problem.

This morning however she showed virtually no interest in her morning banana and absolutely no enthusiasm.  Normally she’s up on her hind legs demanding to be fed, but not today.  And almost no interest in craisins, and hadn’t touched her hay overnight  So I called the vet and took her in at 10:30.  She put up with being examined, raised a little bit of a fuss (but not much), he said it looked like there might be a little tiny bit of a dental issue but nothing that should be causing these kinds of symptoms so quickly.  The best guess with the symptoms was the beginning of stasis, so they gave her some metaclopramide and subQ and I took her home to give her some critical care and keep an eye on her.  Very quickly though she started failing.  It was like she was losing muscle control or strength from the front on back.  Her hind legs worked but her front ones wouldn’t.  She would just lie there with her head on the floor.  We were back at the doctor’s office for 2:30ish, but a few block away she went into those spasms that anyone that has watched a rabbit pass knows all too well.  Shockingly she still had a very faint heartbeat and very shallow breathing when I got her into the clinic, but she passed very shortly after.

         She was 2 1/2.

        Binky Free Kaylee.

        – Annette
