Hi all! So all of a sudden my bun Levi has decided that is litter box is not enough and has been going outside of his cage recently! He was neutered in the beginning of November and has not had any territorial issues since. He used to be HORRIBLE! He would spray everywhere, poop everywhere,it was all one big mess. Now he will be running around and all of a sudden just make one big pile. I have tried confining him to his house, adding boxes, pretty much everything I can think of. Please does anyone have any other suggestions I could try?
        Thanks

I should also add he is 7 months old and is the only rabbit. We have a dog too but that’s never shown to be an issue

            Hmmm…
Are there any changes in his environment that might cause him to be territorial?

Is there hay in or next to the litterbox?

Also, is his litterbox big enough? At 7 months I’m just thinking maybe he’s outgrown it. It should be big enough for him to lie down in.

He actually has a cat sized litter box because he likes to dig(shocker right?) he is very clean in his cage, but when he gets out is his problem. I let him out yesterday and he was only out for five minutes when he decided to do it again, this time he made a big pile, but he also peed on one of my boyfriends bags that he left on the floor. I’m thinking he’s mad at him? He seems ok with me… I don’t know what to do about it because when he does it it is literally right after he gets out!

Is it a new boyfriend? Rabbits can pee outside the box as a reaction to changes, I noticed this not long ago when Bam and my dog went to live with my mum because I’d broken my foot. He peed several times on her oiled hardwood floor. After a few weeks and 4 or 5 peeing-incidents, he’s stopped. He was neutered a year ago.

We don’t know why he peed on the floor, obviously, but it’s likely to have been some form of territoral marking. Maybe your boyfriend’s scent is causing your bunny to think marking is needed.

My rabbit just got fixed a couple days ago, but I had the same problem. He was fine until one day I visited a friend who also had a rabbit. Since then, he’s started marking more around the door where my shoes & bag are.
Your bun may just be smelling something new in the house.

I have to agree. My boy ‘marked’ our whole house, other pets included along with us. Once he was neutered – all good. But since then we have had nothing ‘new’ enter our home. I have to wonder if we did – would he mark it? I’d put it to the test for you if you promise to come clean up afterwards? Lol…
Bam – how’s your foot? Plaster off soon?
rayray – how did Ziggy’s neuter go?
