My 10 week old holland lop Meeko has been making the same accident for the past two days in the same spot. He keeps peeing right next to the litter box where his food & water is. Luckily is doesn’t get on the food, but today when I was cleaning the bottom of the litter box I saw some pee stains on the side. Do you think he might be spraying his litter box? It was on the outside. I didn’t think the hormones kicked in until at least 12 weeks. I’ve had him since he was about 7 weeks old, and he had two accidents the first day, and that was it. Do you think it’s his hormones? I’m taking him to the vet at 11 weeks for an exam, and to determine when he can be neutered.

Overall I haven’t noticed any behavior changes. He still a friendly bunny who likes cuddles on my bed. (:

What a cutie!!! Congrats on your new bun!

What is the cage set up like? I see the xpen in your picture, is that his cage or does he have a regular plastic bottom cage?

Thank you. Yeah, he lives in a 36″ x-pen. I tried putting him in a large travel dog crate kennel (had it in storage from my last dog). It’s about the same size as some of those store bought cages. He slept in there for the first 3 nights. I gave in to his innocent little face when he kept pushing on the door of the cage to get out, so I let him use the xpen as a cage. He’s very good with his litter box habits during the day. In fact he never makes accidents except for poo. He usually pees in there too at night, but these past two nights he’s been missing. I’ll let you know if he pees in the same spot again tonight. I’m buying white vinegar tomorrow to help get the smell out. Maybe I’m not cleaning it good enough, and he still smells his pee there?

He didn’t make any accidents this morning. (:
Maybe he’s just really young and has too much freedom? I’m still curious if he might of sprayed his litter box box though.

He might have sprayed the box, that is possible. That behavior usually goes away once neutered. Just keep doing what you’re doing and cleaning up any accidents as soon as you can.

                    Meeko is gorgeous!

Litter habits can be a little unpredictable pre-neuter. When Pascal was that age we could go days, even weeks without an accident then all of a sudden his streak would end!
In the week leading up to his neuter the whole world was his litter box, same for immediately after. Now he’s a pro though!

Patsy on the other hand was more erratic and it’s only now at six months that she’s more or less got the hang of it. Occasionally she goes in the playpen (and I mean really occasionally) I think she gets distracted and forgets she has to go to the litter tray!
I have also seen her jump into the litter tray but leave her bum hanging over the edge and then wee half in the tray and half out- teenagers eh?!

I think this is probably age related and as Beka says, they are far better when neutered! He’s off to a fine start though I must say!

Beka27 – Ok. He’s going to the vet on Tuesday, so hopefully I’ll get a neuter date soon. And thank you! I’m so happy they get along. (:

Starah – Oh Thank you!! Ok that’s good to hear. Haha. Meeko does that too sometimes, I just lift him up a bit to put his bum in the box too.
