I’ve decided to start Coco on a Glucosamine + Chondroitin liquid (no sugar added, but it does taste like orange) daily to help with what I suspect is her onset of Elder Diva Bun arthritis.

As suggested by MediRabbit, I’m doing 1/4th tsp a day. It should take a couple of weeks to see any real result, but I strongly think that my adding the Joint Support Oxbow supplements two weeks ago has shown some improvements in her overall activity. I even saw a half binky a few nights ago.

In addition, I am trying an alcohol free white willow extract for discomfort. I do plan on asking our vet for some MetaCam to have on hand, but I would highly prefer to not start MetaCam if we can do without. My hope is that the white willow will ease any low grade discomfort she may be experiencing.

I gave this to her orally tonight. She actually took it quite well, although I did get a sharp look once I put her back on the floor. I anticipate that she will urinate on something in the very near future.

Thank for reporting in about it. It’s good to hear these supplements can make a difference. Something easy for us as owners to get them onto.
Turmeric is another anti-inflammatory you might like to look into Baleful.

So she’s taking the liquid from a syringe?

I’ve wanted to get a couple of my bunnies on supplements but haven’t been able figure a way to get it into them regularly without forcing it. I thought adding it to some home made cookie treats.

I was giving it both to her via syringe and she was meh about the experience.

However, I had a brain storm this morning and tried mixing it in with a *little* bit of pineapple juice. Voila – she lapped it right up.

I think those Oxbow supplements have turmeric in them as well. She takes them all right ( if I am not offering papaya tablets).

It’s been a couple of weeks now so I wanted to update.

We are seeing a vast improvement in Coco’s mood and mobility since adding the G&C to her daily intake. She is moving with comfort and is even moving out into the other areas of the house (She had been sticking very close to her maze/under the bed).

We got the Myristol pellets and they look nearly identical to Oxbow regular pellets. In fact, I give a big 3 finger pinch of the Myristol and then a tiny 1 finger pinch of the oxbow pellets and she thinks she is getting a treat.

I am down to cleaning her bum once a week rather than daily. She is now fast enough that she can make a run for it when she sees me coming.

              So far, so good.

I know this is a slightly old thread, but I wanted to follow up since it is great to hear that these supplements have made a big difference for your bun!  My vet gave us metacam to determine whether our bun’s diminished activity was arthritis-related, and after a few days I’m certain it is — she is running around again now that she’s on meds.  I’m not sure what the vet is going to recommend long-term, but I’d love to not have to shell out for metacam every month/avoid potential kidney issues for Mrs. Coach.

Are you still seeing notable changes?  I’m going to have to look into where I might be able to get glucosamine (I did try the Oxbow joint support tabs, which have glucosamine…she does take them if I leave the tab in her dish overnight, so maybe that may help as well, though I know it’s supposed to take a month or so to see results with those).  I hope things continue to go well for you!

                      Hi mrs coach.

Indeed I AM still seeing very noticeable effects. I saw a true binky a few days ago – the first for coco in nearly a year. The following day, she did the bunny 500 racing back and forth.

She has been able to clean her own bum consistently as well. It’s been nearly three weeks since I had to take care of a ball of poo smooshed into her fur.

She will take the tabs, but the easiest sell has been the sugar free glucosamine liquid in a bit of pineapple juice. The juice also helps their hair digestion ( particularly during shed time). The time to benefit on the liquid seems shorter – about 2 weeks of daily dosage ( @ 1/4th of a teaspoon)

I got my glucosamine liquid ( orange flavored, no sugar) for about 7 dollars on amazon.

                      Good luck!

It’s really wonderful to read this! I have seen almost incredible improvement in dogs with glucosamin-chondroitin supplements, it’s great to know that it works for buns as well.
