Chester has free roam of the house, and usually sleeps through the night pretty well. He tends to sleep in my room, under the bed. He tends to wake me up if I sleep past dawn, which I’m ok with, but lately he’s decided that dawn in way too late! The last 3 night he’s woken me up at 5:30, 4 and 4:30am! I’m in Canada, and it’s not remotely close to dawn at those times.

I’ve tried restocking his hay feeder before bed, thinking he might be hungry. Didn’t work. Tried giving him his salad dinner later. Didn’t work either. Tons of attention during the day. Didn’t help. I don’t know what to do. I’ve been luring him out of the room when he wakes me up – no petting, no food, no positive reinforcement – and then closing the door. But I know he likes sleeping in the bedroom with me and makes me sad to do so.

I recently came back from a month long trip, might he just be missing me? He let me sleep for 5 days after returning without any issues. Any ideas or advice?

Apollo used to do it too. He’s bang his toys around and litter box about at crazy hours, and my family would be so mad with me! He grew out of it….it was mostly when he wanted a clean litter tray, or there was something ‘wrong’ like, he didn’t have fresh water, or one of his toys was stuck under his litter tray. My dad used to sprinkle some pellets in his bowl to hush him up, and then we slowly weaned him off the pellets and gave him hay instead and he stopped doing it. How old is your bun?

Chester is almost 2. He’s been free roam since the summer and this is the first time he’s done anything like this. He’s usually pretty quiet during the night.

Maybe he’s needing more hay. He’s been eating a lot more of it since it’s gotten colder…

Well, I got woken up at 6:15 today, and Chester mostly chilled next to me and cuddled. I’m ok with this timing, and with the cuddling

I “push” whoever wakes me off the bed – hubby, dog, rabbit – at 4 in the morning, I don’t care and don’t even open my eyes anymore, what ever my leg/foot connects with – it’s off the bed! (I do feel bad though, I kicked my dog off the bed once and it turned out to be Henry, he moved to quick and poor George (and I think she was asleep, poor girl) ended up on the floor). Dam bunny! Yes, I apologized and picked her back up again. That naughty bunny – causing trouble!

Oh, AndHenry! I wish I had the accuracy to do that

I locked Chester out of the bedroom at 5am today again. Got woken up at 7:30 by him thumping by my bedroom door like “I’M HUNGRY! GIMME FOOD, WOMAN!”. *Sigh* I’m such a bunny slave…

I can’t have my bunny out at night because he wakes me up as soon as HE decides its breakfast time. He’s sweet about it (lays on my pillow and nudges my cheek with his nose) but……..LET ME SLEEP.

I have to keep a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs because when my bunny REALLY wants out of his pen, he jumps out of it.

I never found another way to stop him besides blocking him from the bedroom.

I just ‘had’ to share this with everyone BubblesJo – this morning when I woke up….. it was to a bunny (Henry) sitting on my bedside table next to a shredded tissue box! (told you I just got used to him and can sleep through it now?). But how (naughty) funny is that????? What a way to wake up to an alarm clock!?! If you want to start a forum why you should ‘put’ your bunny to bed at night – I’d start with that, hah ha hah!

Edit/Add – I’m sure when the alarm went of he thought, “Dam – busted”! (as if I couldn’t work out the culprit?). Good thing I didn’t need to blow my nose this morning???? Just added tissue’s to my shopping list….

When Powder was in my room, I fed him BEFORE bed that way he’d have pellets to munch on through the night. If he ended up running out and waking me up early, I would just give him 1/4 of his daily pellets and go back to sleep.

AndHenry, why else would you have tissues? They’re just there for bunny to shred Seems about right!

I’m happy to report Chester has gone back to normal hours! He’s waking me up between 7-7:30

Lol this cracked me up. Lulu would do this a lot. If I went away for a weekend or any period of time, I’d come home and for the next week she would wake me up and two hour intervals starting at midnight, or if I was lucky she’d start at 2 lol. She would either dig in her litter box or bang her wooden toys against the floor, or just dig and attack her door to try and open it. Now though she will sleep in her playpen area in a separate room so we no longer have this problem lol.
