In reference to this post I made: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/128391/afnp/357154/Default.aspx

I emailed the rescue, and they asked which rabbit I was interested in. I listed two singles and one bonded pair that I am interested in meeting.

I have been browsing this forum…and have seen people say how their rabbit chose their BFF. So, how does that that work exactly?

I’m just wondering, and this may be quite naive haha, but do they put them all in a room and see which one Lucky likes the best? Or does he meet them individually to see how he reacts?

And what do I look for if he finds “the one”?

Tons of questions, just trying to prepare for my little man getting some friend(s)!

Basically just as you said. I think it’s rarely ever love at first site. Basically you are just seeing how initially they seem to interact with the other rabbit. Hopefully the rescue or foster family has some experience so they can help you determine if it is a good match or not.

You will meet each one or each pair individually with Lucky to see – usually in a pen to see how they act together – that is what I used to do.

You just watch them. There are some signs to look out for–ignoring is usually the best you can hope for. Grooming one another or laying together is a fantastic sign. Self-grooming and other relaxed behaviors, like eating (if they provide some hay or something) or flopping are good signs.

A little bit of circling and humping is to be expected. Attacking one another and usually the shelter person will not recommend that bun, especially if it’s severe.

              The others gave great advice.

My small input would be NOT to freak out if they do a bit of circling and mounting at first. It’s very typical and usual. It’s considered more of a “risky” match if they begin attempting to scuffle or fight. If one bun mounts the other and the other is fine with it – it’s USUALLY a good sign.

Hopefully some other experienced bonders will be around to help you decide!
