        Hi all!

I’ve had my bun Brenna since the end of November. We’ve been doing really well on bonding (slow but steady) and she’s been very happy with lots of binkies.

Now, all of the sudden, she’s acting very strange. We had a big wind “storm” come up over the weekend (if you’ve been watching the weather I’m sure you are at least somewhat aware of it…across most of the midwest) and that seemed to scare her a bit. Kind of just put her on high alert or something. But now that the weather is past she’s not calming back down. In fact she may be getting a little worse. She acts scared of me and every single noise. She’ll calm down a tiny bit here or there, usually at night after I’ve been home for a little bit, but mostly she’s stopping every two seconds to listen intently.

Anyone have any experience with this type of thing or idea what might be going on inside my girls’ head?

Does she have a spot to run to to feel safe? Like a hidey house or something?

Whenever Peony gets scared she runs into her hutch to jump in her litterbox or her sleeping spot in the hutch. So I know that is her safe spot. She ran there when hearing loud noises, being shown meat, vacuum cleaner, the spot she is not skiddish when eating leaves, hearin gangam style for the first time, nom nom song, so on.

I think part of the cause might be she does not have a safe zone (or feels she doesn’t), but I am not sure.

She has a lot of what I kinda call “hiding spaces” and she has a covered little “Hutch” thing that has her food and litter and all that stuff. She likes to run under the bed and under both the bookcase and the table. I’ve tried giving her like a box with a whole cut out and stuff like that but she doesn’t like them and never went in them so I never got her an “official” hidey spot.

Well I mean did she ever pick one to be in? I did the same thing for my bunny and even presented her with her carrier in her pen so she can run in there and get used to it if she chooses. Always the hutch. (Did you ever see her try go somewhere when she got scared or did not like something?)

My bunny refuses to go in to any hidey boxes unless there are 2 openings in it. Try cutting a hole into both sides of a box, maybe 2 exits will help ease her anxiety and give her a place to feel safe.
