        Hello all

Brief background if you’re interested!… I have had my mini lop / lionhead cross (Little Bear) since he was just 12 weeks and is now nearly 14 months. He is just the sweetest, most adorable thing and is very much attached to me. He sleeps on my bed and wakes me up by licking my ears. I think he thinks I’m another rabbit, which is why I knew I really needed to get him a friend so he could explore all his rabbity stuff with another of his kind.

I took him to a rescue yesterday to meet some does a similar age to him. My girl I ended up taking home with the first one he saw and immediately he loved her and she loves him too. I can’t believe how stress free it’s been. I moved them both into my neutral spare room with lots of space to play and there has been no fights, just grooming and flopping around on the floor together, it’s total bliss I don’t know what I was so worried or why the internet prepared me for such a horror story..

Anyway! Like I said he is a lionhead / Mini Lop cross and he weighs 1.45kg (I just had him at the vets the other day).

She is clearly lionhead too because of her beautiful mane but she doesn’t have the fringing skirt (like he has tufts of around his back quarters) and she is clearly not all lionhead so I wondered if you had any suggestions as to what she may be? She all totally white except for a tiny grey smudge on her nose, and she has brown eyes.

She is considerably larger than him, I would say twice as heavy but haven’t weighed yet. The size of her droppings are more than double his. Further to this, do you think she is too big? As in does she need to go on a little diet? She is very greedy and loves eating.

If you do know her breed or type, what weight is generally a good weight that I should keep her at?

I have added a picture so you can see the comparison and she what she looks like.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

Hattie (plus Little Bear and “New Bear” as she doesn’t have a name yet!) xxx

Is that the little one in your avatar? It’s pretty small but it looks to me like a Lionhead (maybe a Lionhead Mix)…

Weight is a hard one though – every rabbit will have a different weight – as long as your vet thinks her weight now is good then that would be a good weight for her.

Sorry yes, I thought I attached a better picture but I haven’t done it right obviously! Here is one…

Maybe it is just because she looks so much bigger than he does, I know she is normal size. But not normal for what I have read a Lionhead should be so that’s why I am just curious about what she could be crossed with! I am not v breed savvy!

I am taking her to the vet on Saturday, I only got her yesterday but she does seem healthy

            Thanks for your help! xx

I think the coat can vary a lot in lionheads also. Some get double manes, some single and some unmaned. So I’m thinking perhaps some dont get the skirt either?

Are you in the UK? (You used kg’s so I’m guessing). The breed standard varies region to region.

Oh I can see pic now, how cute!
I agree, she looks more like a mix but I wouldn’t know what with. Sorry.

                Welcome by the way!

                  yep I’m in the UK

thanks so much anyway though! I’ll see what the vet says about her weight but she should be fine she’s just a big girl. Bear seems to like girls with big bottoms ha

                    Lol !

Ok, just took a look at BRC breed standard. Lionheads there are 1.36-1.70kg (3lb-3.12oz).
Keep in mind, the ones that usually end up in the pet market are there because they don’t meet the standards for showing.

                      Ah great thanks!

That’s why I think she must have a bit of something else in her to make her the size and weight she is – definitely closer to around 4lbs I think. Very heavy girl!

As she came from a rescue (she was found abandoned, starving and terrified in her carry-case under some rubbish in one of those portable refuse skips you can hire for construction outside your house – horrible!!) we don’t really know anything about her other than that the rescue put her at roughly 1.

Thanks for your help! bedtime for us in the UK x

She is so cute! They both are! Congrats on the new bun and the incredibly easy “bond”!

I agree, a lionhead mix of some type, maybe the vet will be able to figure it out?

Just an off the cuff feeling is she is part californian. Something about the smudge on her nose. It would explain her size too. The eyes don’t fit for californian, but we know she’s part lionhead too, so it doesn’t feel wrong to me.

Unless I’m misinterpreting the photo, I wouldn’t worry about her weighing more than LB. He looks like he is just generally a smaller bunny than she is, less length and what not, so of course she out weighs him.

thanks for all your ideas I agree about the Californian smudgy nose, but oh well guess it will just have to be a mystery! The vet was unsure, but I’m just glad she’s happy and settling in well.

anyway Little Bear loves her, big bottomed girls make his world go round apparently! So you’re right about the weight/size not being an issue.

(I’ve called her Lulu by the way)

                            thanks everyone XX
