        Hello all!

My bunny decided to eat a small portion of a plastic bag without me noticing (silly little thing!) and now is not pooping as frequently as she normally does. It happened almost 2 days ago and she still isn’t having her regular bowel movements and I’m really concerned that she’s bloated or gassy or going through GI stasis because her abdomen is a little bigger than usual. But saying that, her behavior is still the same! She’s eating and drinking the usual amounts of hay/water she usually does and she’s been running and doing binkys around my room too! Her first poops were a dark brown colour and ‘liquidy’ and all clumped together. Then shortly after that they were a little smaller in size to what she usually produces, and now (a day later) they’re the same size as what they usually are but a lighter brown colour, although she’s not pooping as much as she usually does (which is quite a lot!)

I’m just really confused because on one hand she’s showing the symptoms of something very serious, but then behavior wise she’s fine and acting how she usually does! if her bowel movements don’t get better by tomorrow I’ll take her to the vet.

        Thanks!

One thing that can be worrisome sometimes about rabbits is they can seem to act normal and then bam, only when they are in really serious condition does their behavior show it. The fact that her eating and drinking habits are normal is very encouraging. Also, exercise can help the digestive tract stay on the move so that’s good. It sounds like whatever was was bothering her system may be moving through, but it’s the bloating that is still a real concern. Does she have any LOUD digestive noises? If things are not back to normal and/or the only thing left is the bloat, then I definitely think it would be best to have a vet check her out. Better to be safe than sorry, especially with the New Years holiday coming up.

          Please keep us updated.

Nope I can’t hear any loud digestive noises at all!

I took her to the vet just to make sure everything was alright, and it turns out was! The vet said that the bloat was almost gone, and felt no large obstructions in her gut and some feces that were ready and waiting! Like you said, the material is most likely slowly moving through her system. Because my bunny isn’t lethargic, turning down her food and put up quite a fight when getting her check-up, the vet said there’s no real need for serious concern yet – but like you said, rabbit behavior can deteriorate quickly! When I took her home she pooped some more and I think perhaps she passed the plastic! It was black and tough and all wound up together, which is good news!

            Thanks for the info!
