So I just rescued a bunny and have had him for 2 days. Whenever Im around (even if he’s in hus cage ) he always finds a corner to be in. Does anyone have any ideas why he does this?

You have only had him for 2 days, he is probably still adjusting to his new home. When you are around him, talk and walk quietly. You can lay on the floor with a book, dont pay attention to him, but if he comes to you, offer him a treat. After a couple times, you can attempt to gently pet him. He will get used to you.

Yeah pretty much what long eared lions said. How is your cage/pen setup? Like are you able to open the cage as you lay on the floor without him getting into anything like chewing on wires?

my cage opens from the top. But when i bring him out i usually put him on my bed. There’s no wires exposed for him to chew

Is there anyway to have the cage on the floor and have it open from the side? Most bunnies don’t like to be picked up so that could be part of the problem.

Also, how big is the cage? They need more space than the typical pet store cage provides.

But 2 days really isn’t much time at all. My first bunny didn’t leave his cage willingly for days. Now he gets into everything! He just needed time to settle in to his new home.

Also I notice when my bunnies are in their cages not actively eating or doing something they like to sit in a corner of the cage. Like others have said it would be good if the cage could open in a way you don’t have to pick it up to let it out and also be on ground level. Rabbits do take time to warm up to their new surroundings.

I would suggest getting a new cage. My Mom bought a pet carrier that opened from the top before we went to the shelter and I was like ohhh nonono that has to go back. Even as a carrier it is nice to give them some room to move a bit with a floor door.

Like others said the cages sold at pet stores that are advertise for rabbits usually too small, have a wired bottom, or like your case opening from the top only? so size might be an issue too. When I read about rabbits and saw the picking up issue that most have, I made it a requirement to find pens and cages (or hutches) with a floor door that would allow the bunny to exit on their own.

Like others said most rabbits don’t like being picked up. It is really best just open the cage and see if they are ready to explore. My bunny is very curious and wanted walk around first day home after a few hours. Even with hutch +pen she digs at the pen gate, a side of her pen that leads under my bed, or the side of the pen that is actually outside the main pen area that leads to the other side of my bed. (She gets a bit more room sometimes when I open her pen area and close my and I close my room door)

My bunny is really accepting and it took me four days for her to let me pick her up. I make it her choice by petting her then cuffing my hand under her tummy (the start of the proper handling) If she hopped away, I would not go after her. So on the fourth day she let me pick her up and she was calm too and that shocked me. (I was slow standing up) I only picked her up to put her in the second floor of my hutch to let her discover the ramp. She has not let me since. (loves the second floor of the hutch now because of it so I am glad I did it and she let me)
