Please help. I noticed my bunny hadn’t eaten, drunk or pooped in 24 hours, in this time we tried to syringe feed him water and give him small treats but he wouldn’t have anything. I rang the vets this morning and we took him there straight away. They noticed that his intestines haven’t processed his food and its just sitting there. We have left him with the vet today and they are syringe feeding him and giving him hourly injections to get his gut moving again. My question is: How long will it be before we start seeing poop and when will I hear back from the vet? He has been there since half 9 this morning.

It really does depend on many factors and it would be difficult to say – you did the right thing by taking him to the vet straight away – vibes for your rabbit and I hope he will be better soon.

It might take a while. It’s a tense situation, I know. Many rabbits have recovered from GI stasis, Good luck.

Vibes for you and your bunny… As the others have said, it may be a while before you here as they will want to monitor everything.
Your bunny is in the best possible place at the moment…

I’m so glad to read you brought him to the vet. I think the only delay in hearing about him today would be if they are short staffed on the holiday so are only using emergency measures to care for the animals, not limiting the care necessarily, but possibly limiting their communication with you until later or even tomorrow. They are treating him well for the problem. It may take more time, or it may be that he is showing slow but steady signs of improvement, and they want to watch him a bit longer before calling you to take him home.

Just to let everyone know… Rory was in the vets for 8 hours where they gave him hourly fluid injections and syringe fed him. When we got him home we were told to give him critical care food and he’s now on metroclopmide and metacam twice a day. Within an hour and a half he did his first poo!! It was very small but after that they kept coming! Still tiny but I could see he was already feeling better. His appetite started to pick up and hes drinking more now too. Recovery is slow but hes improving every day! So for anyone who notices the same problem in their bun get them to a vet ASAP! The sooner they get to a vet the quicker recovery can start. Thank you for everyones kind wishes!
