ok… so my bun seems to have an eye infection! i noticed the eye looked wet(fur under the eye) yesterday, but thought it was just water, but it seems to be hair clustered together! i cleaned it with water and a cotton budd today and it seems better( the pic was taken directly after i cleaned it-so wetness makes it look worse) she tipped her hay over on herself 2 days ago(so it could be hay that irritated the eye) and the wetness from the rain seems to be making the ventilation less than ideal as the last change of litter box was very pugnant!(changed every 2 days) . she still eats and drinks and pees and poos and binks and bounces and plays. so behaviour seems to be normal, she sneezed like 2 times 2 nights ago, but not again.  a friend who completed vetsciences this year recommended terramycin eye ointment(2 bun owners also said the same) is this a good idea if it doesnt clear up now? (are there any natural alternatives)

        please let me know!

She took that tumble earlier this week(lip perfectly healed now) and google(I know you can make yourself crazy with google-my patients do it and I hate it) says it can be a root from a tooth growing into the eye duct/eye

I would not put anything in her eye until she is seen by a vet. It could well be a number of things which is why if you are concerned you should have a vet look at the eye.

thanx for the reply sarita. this next pic is an hour after i cleaned it… it looks much better and she doesnt seem to be scratching it at all… could it have been just the hay in the eye? vet is a 2 hour trip and she doesnt respond well to travel… so dont want to drive and stress her for no reason… also… i think my she may be a he… someone asked about it and i checked the images and im still not sure… but looks like its a he!

I think I would wait and see what happens in the next few days and then make a decision about the vet. It’s not an emergency.

She could have had something in her eye that caused irritation. If it continues, you should have it checked out as a runny eye can have numerous causes such as blocked tear duct, dental problems or infection.

Your bunny looks gorgeous. Would love to see more pics.

She’s beautiful! I love REW bunnies!

I agree, keep an eye on her eye and see how she does. It may have been an irritant.

REW? Don’t really know what breed she is, got her from a patient after my boyfriend and I broke up! She is amazing though! What an awesome companion! But she/he is no poser! Struggle to get nice pics! Will try though… Vet here suggested rinsing with regular saline… Not really a bunny doc, but she says it won’t do harm?

REW is red eyed white. I also love the REW rabbits.

I doubt now knowing she is so young that she has dental problems.

She’s probably a New Zealand (NZ) or NZ mix. They are largish rabbits and are oftentimes white with red eyes. Your “stereotypical” bunny rabbit. NZs are also VERY smart. She’s completely gorgeous :o)

I have no idee, but adore him/her! He has spunk! Don’t think you’re gona “not rub” him! He ll nudge or nibble you to ensure he gets attention!
Have any of yall used saline solution on bunny eyes! I’ve read 2 articles that say they have but haven’t spoken to any bunny owners who have used it yet. Vet suggested it…

I was told to use saline to clean some gunk out of one of my guy’s eyes. It didn’t seem to hurt at all. Of course, he wasn’t too pleased about the experience. It also didn’t really help, as his problem was more systemic, so if it doesn’t clear things up in a few days a trip to the vet may be in order.

Hey all! Just an update… My bun is doing much better! The hairs around the eye is still a little corse, but that seems to be as a result of the meds wich making it slightly oily! The vet could sort nothing out and after my second visit with no certainty followed advice from another bun owner, who is also a nurse and a pet hysteric(has 4 dogs, 3 cats, rabbits, bearded dragons, fish that eat ou of her hands and many birds) she suggested chloromex eye ointment( it is for humans, but the anti biotic is safe for bunnies as ointment and when ingested and has a very low risk for digestive complications-only ingested and in excess) I started the meds and the next morning, it was already better! Liefie is bouncing and binking even more than usual! Hahaha so thanx for all the support. I’m getting better at this bunny owner thing! Less paranoid, but still careful.
