Hi! I am new here (and am from Singapore) and thought to show my three-storey rabbit house. I started off wanting an outdoor hutch but then I saw this metal rack I had in the garden. I decided to convert it into a rabbit house. I started by attaching metal grids to it:

When the rabbits came, I did not open the bottom two floors to avoid overwhelming them with too much space. Here is the top floor, where they stayed for a month (of course with the daily outdoor exercise):

A month later I decided to open the 2nd floor. This required a stairwell by the side since I could not cut through the metal rack:

I had these custom made to fit the dimensions of the stairwell by the side. With the stairs in place, the second floor was opened:

The rabbits figured out that their living space doubled in size quite quickly. At first they were hesitant using the stairs, but after a while they were racing up and down. With them settled into the second floor, I decided to also open the final, ground floor:

This is a frontal shot of the entire house, all three floors (each floor has a mezzanine level too):

Finally, I wanted to add an outdoor run for the rabbits. They were of course getting a good workout everyday for 4 hours or so with a pen set up in the garden, but I wanted something permanent and attached to the house for direct access. Here it is:

It is linked to the ground floor of the house by a flip-out ramp/door. I have yet to let the rabbits out into this new enclosure as it is 3am now and I have just completed this!

They seem quite excited about it though:

And so that is the story of my rabbit house! Comments welcome!

          Welcome to BB!!

That is such a neat use of an existing item! We have a couple of those exact racks at our house for storage but I’ve never considered using the frame as the base for an indoor rabbit condo! That looks really cool!

I love this! Thanks for sharing the pics. I look at similar shelving and mentally convert it into a condo so it is so good to see one done. Just about every I see I wonder how it can be used for rabbits. Lol!
I’ve always wondered about if those bakers stands would work because the shelving is often wider at the bottom and half width higher up.

The little stairwell is so unique. It must be fun watching them use it. Gorgeous little pair you have there!

That’s an amazing house! And the bunnies are soooo cute. I’m super jealous of their home, especially the stair wells! Awesome job, well done x

Thanks for all your kind words and interest!

I added a few improvements to their living quarters. First I bought a hutch for the outdoor enclosure. The rabbits are only allowed access in the day and are ushered back into the house for the night.

The hutch has since been shifted to the enclosure, which is directly connected to the house:

Here are the rabbits exiting the house via the side gate:

And then cautiously approaching the hutch:

Since I have some space, I also added two more to the pack. But I have yet to bond them yet with the existing two; I hope it won’t be too dramatic!

Aww, too cute. Do you know the breeds? How old are the newer ones? They’re sooo tiny

                                I love your set up.

All four are netherland dwarves, but the two larger ones are more than a month older…

The new acrylic enclosure for the small rabbits; the outdoor enclosure + three-storey house for the bigger two.

I think it is hysterical that you put banisters of BOTH sides of the stairs!

Since my last update, I have expanded the rabbit house to include a second enclosure for three new rabbits. My original two rabbits had three babies (one sadly passed away – it was a ‘max factor’ baby) as well before I could neuter/spay them. So now I have 9 rabbits. I don’t intend anymore babies, so I have kept the boys separated from the girls while I arrange for their neuter/spay.

The hope is to eventually house all 9 rabbits across the two enclosures, without a divider. It will be a huge task bonding ALL of them, I know!

How did you get from two to nine? haha! dramatic!

Am i right in thinking that the boys run-around space is next to the girls? The fence there separates them?
If so, then I think you’ll need to adjust that because they can breed through the bars easily.

Yes, like Tessie said, they can easily breed through cage/pen bars. Bunnies WILL find a way ;o)

They have had no problems with the stairs and ramps. Took them a while to figure out the stairs but once they did, it worked out well. Let me try and get a pic of the stairs tomorrow.
