My bunny has been acting a little weird lately. Here are some symptoms

        – ravenous appetite, goes crazy for food. usually does not even touch his wooden toys, branches, and hay but he has been devouring them lately

        – increased thirst

        – molting

        – super aggressive, making grunting noises. even tried to attack my friend the other day by running around and grunting.

He is around a year and one month old, neutered.

Any advice would be appreciated. I will be taking him to the vet, but I still want different people’s opinions and advice. Thank you.

If he is molting, this may be the cause of some behaviour changes and aggression. I know my Olivia is quite cranky when she is molting. It’s like bunny PMS! But if in doubt, a vet check is a good idea. You know your bunny best and what is abnormal for him.

WOW! Molting? My boy is molting (it is so bad and all over the house, I suggested to my hubby to hold him up by the ears (joke) while I vacuum him), it is driving me crazy!!!! And cranky – he’s worse than ME!  (LittlePuffyTail – “NOOOOO”!)  (pms).

I never thought to ask the question, so thanks lulu the bun, you helped me out too! I’ll keep a close eye on your forum replies, and take on any suggestions and advice you are offered. Cheers. (great enquiry!).

Is molting pretty obvious? Just asking because I don’t think Ziggy has molted yet. Does this happen at a specific time of the year (as in seasons changing)?

My buns tend to molt in Spring and Summer but not always and every bunny is different. You will know when your bunny is molting. They lose so much fur it’s unreal. After a grooming sessions I have a really hard time believing all that fur came off such a tiny bunny! My buns tend to look pretty scruffy during a molt with different length fur and bald spots. Some buns shed in a pattern, others just lose big chunks all over. It’s super important to groom every day during a heavy shed like this.

LPT, my Henry looks a sight – just as you described above. We had a phone book in his house for him to chew on, but took it out in case he found the number and called the RSPCA (our animal society) – I’m sure we’d be arrested and charged, he looks like an unkept dirty old scrag! rayray – you will know when Ziggy starts to molt, you’ll be questioning your decision on having a pet rabbit – I do every day when I literally have to wipe everything over to prepare food. Lucky for Henry, we love him. (I don’t like him at the moment, but yes… I love him! lol.). Owning 3 dogs (fluffy at that) I have never endured anything like it! My hubby even put his nose up to his, and pulled away with a face full of fur! It’s horrible! Yes, we are coming into summer, 2 days till it’s official (Dec 1st), 32% today! My biggest issue, only cause I think it would help, is if Henry would let us groom him, brush the loose hair out, keeping the fluff contained. But he will only let us brush him for seconds at a time, like a pat. It’s unbearable – I get why LPT regards it as pms for bunny’s! For ME – 2 doses (I’m suffering too).
