I’m wondering if the litter box with the screen is a better option than what we have now. We have this big corner litter box (link this but I’m not advertising so I apologize if this is not allowed: http://www.pet360.com/product/16446/smartcat-gray-plastic-corner-litter-box?utm_source=google-pla&utm_medium=cse&extcid=pla&gclid=CLT508T15boCFWRk7AodWlAALQ) but Jack is a new bunny who was an outdoor bun and his litter box habits are not great (yet) so we also have two other, smaller litter boxes in the bunny condo as well. The issue is, we’re going through a lot of litter. I’m wondering if the litter box with a screen would help. But I also don’t know if I should get the medium or large since they are used to that large corner one that they can both go in together. Thanks for any opinions.

I could help. That litter box looks pretty tall too and it makes me wonder if that might be hindering his using the box…

Have you considered just a regular rectangular box at all? I’m not sure that the corner boxes come with screens either…just not familiar with them.

This is my question as well. I’ve seen corner litter boxes with a grate but not a screen. I don’t think a grate will help but a screen might.

We have regular rectangular ones as well but the big corner one is the favorite of both bunnies. I think because it is so big that they both feel cozy in it. The sloped opening is as tall as a normal litter box and they both get in and out just fine. Plus, Noggin love to rearrange the furnature so it’s heavy enough that she won’t tip it over.
If I got a screened litter box, I’d buy it from the binky bunny store. I’m just worried it wouldn’t be any better than what we have now. So I was wondering what other people thought who maybe have tried different litter boxes.

If you want to see how the litter screens are used you can check out the video:

Basically the screen lets you lift off poo and hay so you can scoop out the wet litter from there. Being able to save non-soiled litter more easily by scooping around it is the only way it will save you on litter. Another thing that might help save money when it comes to litter is to change the type of litter you use. Wood Stove Pellets or Horse Stall Pellets are safe and usually about $4-5 for 40-50 lbs. They are absorbent and safe as long as they don’t have any added accelerant.

Are the horse litter pellets ok even if they are made from pine or ceader?

This doesn’t help with your litter box dilemma, but we have been mixing aspen bedding with our critter care bedding (like carefresh but a bit less expensive) to cut down on costs. Penelope seems to like it as it makes the bedding fluffier and she doesn’t push it around in her box quite as much. We were going through a lot of litter! I am waiting for BB to get some more litter screens in so that we can buy one.
