My rabbit was in his play room and I went in to check on him: he’d spilled his water bowl–pretty normal–and was lying in the puddle–definitely not normal! He usually hates getting wet, even when i just wet my hands and pet him to get rid of loose fur. He had a whole room to play in and the puddle was fairly small, so it’s not like he had to lie in it.

I’m not super worried, but I couldn’t find anything by googling and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

Well are you certain it’s water and not urine?

If it’s water it may just be a one time incident – if that’s the case, then it was probably just an accident and if it’s not an every day incident or behavior then you don’t need to worry. Accident’s happen.

Definitely not urine, I checked and there was no smell. Thank you!

Does he seem to be wobbly or unsteady on his feet? He may have just fallen over but if he fell over and couldn’t get up you might want to get him checked for EC, his legs might be getting wobbly. Did he just lie there in the wet and if so how long? did you have to pick him up to get him away from the water?
sometimes they fall asleep and fall over in their water, but mine didn’t do that until after he got EC.

PS Unless he got too hot

Was it a warm day? My bun loves lying in puddles, especially on hot days. He has a water bowl and a water bottle and he also likes to lie under the waterbottle so that drips fall on him.

He’s not at all wobbly, he spent quite a bit of time running around afterwards

He might’ve been hot–it’s just starting to become winter, which means the landlord cranks up the heat. I’ve been keeping a window cracked in his play room, but I think I might’ve closed it today.
