          Hello!

My 5 month old male English Lop has started acting a little agressive. When I go to put his food in his bowl, he runs over and tries to bite! I have only been bitten by him once and it didn’t draw blood. I show him in 4-H. I have started to become scared of my rabbit! He doesn’t normally act agressive outside of his cage, could he be territorial? Walter isn’t neutered, is that maybe why?

                                                                                             Please Help! Thank You!

Is he neutered? If not, he’s reached puberty and his hormones have kicked in. That can make him frustrated because he has nobody to mate with. It can also make him very territorial and he’s telling you to back off and give him his space. I know you probably can’t show him once he’s neutered, but until he is, he will probably continue to have those bratty teenage behaviours!

as CheriB603 said if he isnt neutered then thats the reason they become territorial and even if you are trying to feed him he thinks your here to take whats his. dont be scared of him as rabbits are smart animals they can tell if your scared of them so they try to avoid you. once you get him neutered he might still nip you which is his way of saying move out of my way or im done with your attention you can go. my mini lop benji nipped my sister to tell her to move out the way and when she didnt he nipped her again where her back wasn’t covered. but please never be scared of him he is just going into his rebellious teenage years

              Welcome to BB Walter’s Mom!

I agree with Cheri. It sounds like he’s becoming territorial and hormonal.

He definitely is ready for a neuter soon.

Bunnies bite, but usually it’s more of a way of communicating than an attempt to break your skin and hurt you. They will want you to move away, so it makes a point that they are really serious. As a bunny matures, their mouth can almost act as a fifth hand that is useful. It is very rare for a bunny to draw blood, but a young bunny is still learning the fine points of setting its teeth, so it can happen accidentally. They also are into tasting everything, including you and anything you may be wearing, so they use their mouths a lot.

Aggression comes with hormones as the others have said. This behavior will improve with a neuter and age.

My Henry bit me (twice) and drew blood – eeeek! (does he have the taste of it now??? ha ha hah ha…..).
I just said oouuuwwwch very loudly and obviously moved my foot quickly.
And everytime he approached my foot since then, I move it away. (instinct).
Never been bitten since. I do believe he was just curious???? No harm meant.
